Personaly, I have become much more engaged in the spectrum of passion that all of us forumites have put into this post, than the argument at hand.
This all just continues to prove the bond of friendship, humility, and excellence in the custom knifemaking community.
As we can all see, each of us has had a strong desire to react to this whole thing with some aggression. It's because of the way knifemakers treat each other and pretty much anyone they encounter, avoiding negativity toward one another. (NOT GANGING UP AS A MOB OF GOOD OL BOYS).
The farthest thing from reality I can picture is a knifemaker "stooping" to answer a question. All but a very very few knifemakers I have encountered were more than willing to share their knowledge and do so in a welcoming way...not a cold, textbook fashion.
I find it a little strange that wro highlighted two of the knifemakers that respond the most to the serious posts placed on this forum by new guys looking for help. All the joking is extracurricular fun, done after the serious help has been GIVEN away.
wro, I would welcome you to my shop, and be more than happy to pass on any knowledge in knifemaking that I could, but would you really want me to be a cold stiff with no breadth of humor???
There are many many professions, hobbies, etc. that nearly the entire make-up of said community only wants to progress themselves and step on anyone that gets in their way or threatens them. Knifemaking is one of a rare few communities in which most all of its members want to see one another excell.
Instead of feeling targeted as being wrong, I would suggest you just see this as what it really is. A bunch of people willing to help each other out and have fun while doing it.
Just some thoughts,
Nick
