This thread is to highlight Tom's work, so if you have a Ploppert knife, please post it here!
I am a big fan of Tom's work and am excited to start a thread about Tom. Tom lives in Cullman, Alabama with his wife and 4 childeren. He is graduate of Auburn University and runs his own business, on top of making some of the finest slipjoints available.
Tom bought his first custom slipjoint from Pat West and Pat suggested Tom buy a grinder and start making knives. A few years later he met Bill Ruple, who is the inspiration behind Tom's knife passion. Tom made his first slip joint in April 2009. Later that year he attended a slip joint class instructed by Bill Ruple and Rusty Preston. This was a big step forward in his knife career.
Over the last few years, Tony Bose has been a big influence in Tom's knife building. Without Tony's help, Tom would have never been able to build a lockback whittler. Tony is a generous and kind man.
Tom has won many awards including Best New Maker at Blade 2013. Tom and I are working on a custom damascus cattle knife, master clip, secondary punch and coping, made out of Markus Balbach Leo IV damascus. In the mean time this Diamond Edge Cattle knife has been on my mind for quite some time and I was lucky enough to be able to splurge and add this to my pocket. I will have it in hand on Thurs. and will post my impressions and pics.
more to come.....
