Tomorrow's chopper sale and the random number generator

My first ever directly bought CPK was an original LC which I believe was $365 or maybe $385 at the time over 10 years ago a few month before the birth of this sub in Jun 2016. I think that the new LC bought directly from is now $725 (was a bit less during the pre-order) because everything has almost doubled in costs and prices over this past decade, so this does not come as a huge surprise. I still think that basic format CPKs are still underpriced by maybe up to 20% but that is because Nathan is doing his best to deliver the best bang for the buck, which is his business philosophy which in term has kept him in the game with growing successes while many others have either already failed of are floundering during the tougher times.

There is still some value in these harder to come by CPKs which Nathan is knowingly leaving on the table but who am I to suggest otherwise while he has paved his own path to successes in his own way adhering to his own philosophy. It is not upsetting to me when I see the same items from a prior Friday's sale showing up with that 15-20% mark up on the Exchange (although I rarely buy them there) because I deem them to still be in that true value range, if the seller wishes to squeeze a few more $ out of it. My post above is just my opinion about speculating on the Bay in these uncertain times which we are and will be facing. I do believe that some of Nathan's knives are worth a heck of a lot more these days but those are some very unique knives which were greatly undervalued and under priced back when.

I think the fear of scalpers is worse than actual scalpers in the Friday posts...

Fear is not the correct phrase but being apprehensive about that terrible practice is because it actually harms the brand. Statistically maybe there is only one or at most two scalpers as you call it spread over a few Fridays sales, so the numbers are not very high but IMO, the damage which they can cause is far more than the number of those who infiltrate these sales.

I don't know where you come up with your numbers, Mat.

No one needs to "fear" scalpers...and once upon a time we showed them the door. But the barbarians have gotten through the gate and now we (usually) only take measures under egregious circumstances.

In the end it comes down to knowing the product and what one feels is a fair price for it. There are lots of things I may want. There are lots of prices I won't pay.

Basically seeing one or two pop up over there on the Bay after a few bellwether regular sales 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, we, (staff), are well acquainted with the quite large number of members who are pretty much here only to buy and resell. (And some to prey upon honest members.)

Have a look at their posts, and see how many are made outside of the Exchange. Very few.

What once was primarily an enthusiast community, has in large measure, (outside of various threads and sub-forums), become a less expensive venue for selling (at a profit).

It's especially apparent if you've been here from the beginning or the early years.

There is still a lot of great content, but trying to maintain the integrity of the site is becoming a more difficult endeavor on an almost daily or weekly basis.

Is there a bot that can make a graph showing the top 10 finishers for all the chopper sales? A list of the All Star speed demons?
I will be on the list, not a bot, going to have to take my word for it. I snagged a #6 spot from my cellphone, either my thumbs are supernaturally quick or the bots were frozen that day.
I wanted to get back in the running again yesterday but I glitched myself and forgot what time it was. Gonna have to get some adrenaline from somewhere else I guess.

Its hard to make things fair for high-demand, low volume items. That's for anything. Usually, its what the market will bear and who has enough money to buy it, whether it be cars, guns, motorcycles, knives, concert tickets, or whatever. I know I came back to this forum to try to buy a CPK knife. Then I had to post fast or join a raffle. If your timing is good and you know about it, you get in on a pre-order. I didn't go to an auction house or webstore to buy a CPK knife. High-end street wear and fashion sneakers have "drops". On this date we are going to "drop" our summer collection or limited edition shoe. They put the item on the webstore and it is first-come first serve. Sold out fast. If you remember the Beanie babies craze, you will remember lines out the door and people fighting over stuff or Black Friday sales before they went online. To buy tickets for the band BTS, you have to be a member of the BTS Army (fan club) and be online at a specific time to get a shot at buying a ticket.

I haven't been to Blade Show but I understand the really popular custom makers have raffles to sell knives on their table. This eliminates the first in the door and first to the table buyer, but it doesn't stop the person who flips a knife. I don't think you can eliminate that.

If I really want a particular knife, I will wait and see what shows up on the secondary market and see if I am willing to pay the asking price. I am not sure what else you can do. It's just hard for any popular item. I appreciate Nathan doing the best that he can to try to make it more accessible.

I am going to add that I have a gambling addiction and will play the CPK lotto every two weeks. :)

I think, the amount of time it takes for the website to refresh and the number of people that post in that time frame, and the number of people that will be posting in a different refresh timeframe makes that unlikely. You also have to select the correct prime number that lands in a slow time frame but isn't outside of the one minute time frame. I could be wrong but I think it's too chaotic too game.

But, if somebody can figure out how to game it. That's pretty awesome, I'd like to see it.

We should figure out a challenge. This is giving me an idea....
Well the obvious place to start gaming the system would be to target the later twin primes. Even if 2 other people post at the same time as you, you will still have a 67% chance of winning if you try to get 29 or 41. Wait, should I be telling everyone this?

Why do I always have to come up with the good ideas?

Unsalted butter quarter eating and half marathon competition

Miralax chugging and wind sprints competition

Ipecac holdout challenge

If the Chief Executive in charge of Entertainment’s job is literally coming up with challenges like these, then I’ve definitely been doing something wrong with my life…!🥹

Is that three legs of one competition?!?!?

Sounds kind of hard! I agree, the victor of that would be a true CPK Triathalete, deservedly earning the right to purchase a blade!!! 🤣
