If one states in their original post " the first I'll take it gets it" the seller is obligated to that public commitment of his word. The private messages are sent because the prospective buyer wants a better deal, but if they don't post I'll take it they risk getting scooped. Personally if I agreed in private I'd withdraw the post immediately and send it off.
