took a quick trail ride today.

did some early evening riding earlier today...the full face helmet was a huge confidence booster compared to the road helmet.

the temp was mid-80s but in the woods it felt like it was in the low 70s with the light breeze so i was really tempted to play with fire. too bad i only brought my esee-4 along and left the junglas in the truck...argh.

a good portion of the trail looked like this. with the full face, the huge rocks on the side didn't bother me this time.

some sections like this i was 50/50. if there was a hottie hiker nearby then i plowed through it and only slowed down enough to say hi and say "nice doggie!" and hoping i'll see her again next time and maybe strike up a conversation :D

hotties around or not, some sections like this were downright nuts and i got off the bike and walked through it...time to um...fix the shoelaces while they walk away from view.

+1 on that
better a good helmet than a broken skull

That trail reminds me alot of the Ice Age Trail (illegal to bike, but usually we picked trailheads so far deep most hikers didn't go that far) fist sized round rock the norm with short steep ascents/descents, lots of roots and erosion resistance logs. As you get more confident about how your bike handles, you'll be able to pick your way through rocks like that no problems. When in doubt pick up speed before those sections and level out your crank arms so you don't snag rocks and stumps along the side of the singletrack.

it's been awhile since i rode a mountain bike and only recently did i get back into it - 16+ yrs ago in fact. i've forgotten how dangerous it can be

Old trick for hardtail riders. Get a bigger tire for the front than the back; 2,2 or 2,3. If you are not into racing the speed difference doesn't matter and you will gain significant control.

The other option is to replace suspension travel by even more travel. But it is far more expensive and pushing you bike uphill looks kinda silly.

Loved your pics. MTB rocks.

I ride 1.9 up front and 2.1 in the back, never had a problem with control. Get a Panaracer Smoke/Dart set and you'll know the definition of control when it comes to cross country mountain biking.

Where did you get the patch on top of your gear?

i won that patch from caine's contest a few weeks ago.

thanks, man. glad you like the pics.

i went riding earlier today with a bunch of buddies who's been doing it for awhile. oh boy, i thought i was going to pass out there several times. definitely my biggest weakness right now is conditioning so i'll work on that before upgrading any parts.

there were 7 of us and i'm happy to say i wasn't the last one, close but not the last one. haha. tons of hardcore riders out there too with big money setups. only thing that saved me from bringing up the rear was my fear of embarrassment & the 15 hikes i've done so far this year lugging 25 lbs worth of water. my legs were surprisingly a lot stronger than i expected! props for the hikers

Nice area to ride through Bro, you should have done a post on your bike kit for the contest!

I have nearly step on a few tiny frogs lately too.

No pic of the biker hottie?
And who exactly was telling me i was slacking of when i didnt make a pic of the sheeple chick? :p

Nice photo's though!

thanks, bro. it's been too damn hot here lately (in the 90s and 100s) that just the thought of pulling my truck out of the garage to set up some survival scenarios almost always leads to me sitting back and opening a cold one...then next thing i know it's 7 am and i have to get up to go to work! haha.

Nice trail-side attractions! That trail looks more like it, too.

i just realized a mountain bike/any bike is a really nice survival tool too. there were some hills where my legs were just too damn tired but when i tried riding through it i found out it was lot easier! sometime soon when i do an overnighter i'm using the bike as a mule to carry all the firewood & supplies i need (pre-chopped wood in my garage so i don't have to deal with all that sweat and stuff on the trail).

Shhhh Mist, you're ruining my idea for my pic in that contest. If it will stop freakin raining here I'm going to take it asap.

i'm really into mountain biking lately so any bike-related pics won't hurt  ofcourse there's always the game changer - a hottie in an esee panties :D heck, at this point, i don't even need a number, just a good pic. haha.

i knew that comment i made was coming back to me...i didn't know it was going to be this soon. haha.

aside from the souped-up honda crowd i see on friday nights on the local dunkin donuts joint when i pass by...and cough...the local strip club...cough...i've never seen so many fit hotties than on the trail. i think i picked the right hobby this time around :D

i went to a dedicated mountain bike trail with a few buddies last weekend. holy! i nearly passed out 20 min into it. i drank the whole 3 liter water bladder in two hours!

i was ahead of 2 out of the 6 of my buddies most of the time so i was happy i wasn't dead last. my legs were a lot stronger than i thought thanks to all the hiking i've been doing. props to the hikers  that'll teach 'em next time they think of us as "those sissy, nature-loving hikers", haha.

here's a pic of a polaroid pic during a break. holy blast from the '80s batman! apparently a polaroid is now trendy  wtf! i think i'm the guy 2nd from the right but i'm not even sure since the pic is so crappy. haha. i wonder what trend they'll come out next. oh yeah, those are not man boobs :barf: for some reason the maxpedition falcon 2 i was wearing caused the sweat pattern to look like a house with a pointy roof.

as a side note, do not install clipless pedals and give that type of pedals a test run for the first time ever after having a few drinks...i fell down twice in the driveway already still clipped to my bike :p

Bikes rule.

Heres my full rigid singlespeed Surly 1x1. Ive been an avid mtn biker for 20 years. Love it.
