took a quick trail ride today.

Cool single! My shop is right next door to the Surly distributor for this part of the world. I'd love a fixie, but I have too many hills in this part of the world. I laugh at all of the DHers pushing their bikes up the hills, and I would lose that avenue of joy if I had to join them.

I had a fixie GT Edge, annodized royal red aluminum frame with classy white script decals. I rode it like crazy for three weeks and decided I hated the wind way too much to ever put it to use. I wish I still had it now, because it'd be a perfect town beater for hangin' out in Boise. Ah well...
The annual Boise Twilight Criterium was tonight. All the domestics and pros that aren't riding in the Tour de France at the moment were there, cranking out 1km laps at speeds up to 47mph (flat!!!!) averaging 32mph for 90 minutes... one massive crash (kissing wheels) at the front of the peleton and 20 riders impacted pavement at 35mph teeth-first. There were about 20,000 dollars worth of shattered carbon fiber frames. Pictures to come...

only Bike I had was.....
'98 YZ 250

'01 KX 250(injured my back on this one) :D

nice. my buddy is trying to get me into dirt bikes now too. all i have to do is buy a $100 tow hitch platform thingy for it so i can transport it and he says i can learn to ride bikes with it anytime. oh geez. really tempted!

Bikes rule.

Heres my full rigid singlespeed Surly 1x1. Ive been an avid mtn biker for 20 years. Love it.

i don't know how you do it, man. you have to have legs of steel to ride a single speed. i initially wanted exactly like that but now thankfully i couldn't find one locally. i'm already pushing my bike up hill way more often as it is!

i laugh at them too. then i wait until they pass and i do the same thing when i run out of breath :p i think i pushed my bike up 3-4 times today.

Went for a ride with the family today on a trail we haven't done before. Actually, we set out to do one trail, and ended up doing another - thanks to some advice from another biker.
Prime single track XC - mostly downhill in this case, with a couple little climbs, some flats, some mud, and a dump out onto a logging road to finish. Unfortunately, I was not running the camera, so not much useful shots.
Here's what a lot of the trail was like, much of it was more closed in, though:

Coffee at the end, in an old mine: (yes, I had the 4 on me the whole ride)

man, i feel bad i haven't been hiking and haven't posted any pics of my esee knives here in awhile. i've been too busy mountain biking twice a week so i'm too tired to go hike. i just picked up this darth vader rig, a 2011 fuel ex 8 two days ago so i'm not hiking anytime soon :o

have no fear, i'm still an esee fan and will continue to spread the word whenever i get the chance to! so 2 weeks ago we were riding and we ended up lost about 10 mi from the trail head. my buddy hasn't been there in 3-4 yrs (too busy eating hot dogs and packing on the pounds) and only 'fessed up that he was lost at the last minute while leading us the whole time. it turned out he kept following all kinds of trail markers hoping to get his bearings straight

because of this forum i started edc'ng my esee-4, esee fire kit, energy bars, 100 oz camelbak filled with water (yes, that's 3 liters of water no exceptions!), compass, map, etc. regardless if i'm just going to the bank a few blocks away or riding - no excuses, i treat every time i leave the house as if that's the last time i have access to the bare necessities.

i waited and watched them sweat for 30 min to figure out our location on their cell phones' google maps/droid whatever my tracks then i got bored so i whipped out my esee-4 and esee fire kit and started telling them about esee's no bs warranty (their jaws dropped). i then proceeded to feather a stick of fatwood and lit it on fire with the esee fire kit & cotton ball and told them i have everything i need to live comfy for 3 days or more if i have to. there's enough dry wood there that i can keep a fire going pretty well (this particular state park is notorious for bear encounters and venomous snakes slithering into camp). they were shocked and looked at me like i was macgyver :D

finally, i took out my map and compass and started leading in the general direction of the parking lot. after about 20 minutes my buddy who got us lost in the first place started recognizing which trail marker to follow and lead the way...earlier tonight he text msg'd me that he just ordered an esee-4 and a fire kit and the other friend just ordered an izula

...it's going to take a lot of convincing and planning but i'm already planning a scheme to get them to order a junglas next :D

thanks. this is the first sport i've ever tried in my life where i update my living will an hour before :o i'm thinking of a dog tag that says, "if you found me still breathing and alive, the crash didn't kill me and my esee gear kept me alive long enough for you to find me...please call my loved one, xxx-xxx-xxxx"

I'm nursing a bruised collar bone after taking a dive off my bike a week ago. I carry a Spyderco folder when I ride and run, but never thought of taking my ESEE 3. I could have used it to cut myself out of the sticker bushes I rode into.
