I went to a spot I like that has lots of dead wood laying around, but there was a Boy scout troop there and rangers. So I had to hike up a lot further, but the area recently got burned up there so good wood was hard to find.

harvesting yucca takes a sharp blade, it's very tough and fiberous. slid right through them no preblem.

Sharpened up a few stakes. This wood was HARD, felt fire hardened. But throwing chips was easy.

The stick doesn't look like much, but like I said, this stuff is like a rock! No problem batoning though.

Some light chopping was easy. Slide back on the handle and it worked great.

Batoned right through this in about a minute.

Pounded the butt with a club to lodge it in, no worries, no damage to the Micarta.

Mulefat (AKA seep willow) Awesome for fire drill spindles, hearth boards, camp chopsticks, hot dog roaster, it does it all! Chopped a few of these to dry.

Some of the burn.

If you can't tell, I really like this knife! This will make a great field companion. I'm already wanting to go out on another hike with it!

man  that is an awesome looking knife... i need to get one...:o
looks like an ideal woods companion for sure....

my car just took a dump, and i'm probably going to have to get a new one....:grumpy: i'm hoping to squeeze this knife in, before i take the car plunge:barf: :(

Now I really can't wait to get mine. In fact, I'm tempted to get two. I bet there's a few more sales thanks to these pics.

I should mention how great the edge geometry is too. It bites deeply and shaves nice curls in wood for fuzz sticks. The wood I was batoning was gritty with dirt, and aside from a few scratches in the finish, there was zero edge damage. After all the cutting and pounding, it still shaves too. theres no dents or rolled over spots at all in the edge. I cleaned it up, and was able to slice a tomato and some soft cheese easily.
Also, this is the most secure leather pouch sheath I've used. The knife fits in so snug, I can hold it upside down and shake it and the knife won't fall out. Oh yeah, and the thumb serrations throw nice sparks off the steel :D I'll say it again, Nick is a true craftsman! i couldn't be happier.

Jeez I cant wait for this knife. As soon as my paycheck clears, Ill be putting my order in. Its just a amazing looking knife. Cant wait to camp with it.

What exactly is that knife, how much do they run, and where can I get one? Thanks.

Not sure if I can ask this here, but what is the NWA knife, who makes it, etc.
Where do I go to find out about that knife?

Sorry, Obviously I should have searched just a little since this is all over this forum, stickies and all. I took one look at that knife and got all excited. Now I have to come up with the money. The knife and sheath look perfect.

Thanks for the GREAT review Thayne

I'm smiling ear to ear right now:) I'm so happy you like it.
Oh yea, those are some excellent pictures.

Thanks Again
Nick:)

Thanks for sharing the pictures and comments on the NWA. It looks like a sweet little blade and you seem to have had a little fun with it.

I'm glad that Nick's craftsmanship is getting the recognition it deserves.

  for one of the good guys.

You'll love it guys, you really will. i really can't say enough about how great it feels in hand, and how fun it is to use. And thank YOU Nick, you make a helluva nice knife!

Wow, very awesome! Great review, great pics, and GREAT KNIFE!!!!!

September can't come soon enough!

Wanted to see how it worked for carving, made a quick notch
nwa3003.jpg

Shaved down a spindle, carved a notch for a handrill and hearthboard

Also epoxied a fine DMT pocket hone on the back of the sheath

The wide, flat blade makes a great purchase for gripping the knife for cloe up work. the thumb notches are placed perfectly, and are not so sharp as to cut into you. I'm looking for more things to cut :D

great looking knife and some interesting sheath mods. I've always wanted to get a piece of Nick's work but have always some how posted to late. I will get one eventually.

That's a really good idea, gluing the pocket hone to the back of the sheath. Unless, of course, you're me...I would cut the sh*t out of my sheath in no time. I have no regard for "innocent objects" within sharpening range. ;)
