10. There appears to be a substanital amount of hype about knives coming to the Busse Company Store and only the privileged few are able to actually get a knife after hours of what they call fun doing the F5 thing.
True, the company store offerings are limited (of special models anyway - regular production models in the company store don't seem to be in short supply), but you can always order models from the Busse website. You just have to wait longer for delivery.
9. There appears to be a number of individuals that seek attention or use what I shall call the show off mentality of trying to better another members Busse knife collection or a certain Busse Combat knife.
True. That's part of the collecting game. "Mine is bigger/better/rarer/mintier than yours." There are also quite a few people who enjoy using their knives, and lots of information on the forum about sharpening/moding/accessorizing. Maybe it seems like there are more collectors than users, because you don't really need all that many knives if they are built to last a lifetime. But both groups bring something to the forum.
8. There appears to be a certain amount of secrecy or unrevealed information to the public about Busse Combat knife production and actual quanities of their so called Busse Variants.
Variants are a subset of production - anything from a one item experiment, to a factory mistake, to a small run of a modified design. Lots of times you don't even know variants exist until people get multiple copies of a particular model and notice they are different. So we can estimate how many of a particular variant exists based on how many people say "I've got one like that", but in some cases there are no definite numbers. In cases where the factory notices a difference, or makes a limited run, or grinds a unique knife, then it's easier to tell.
7. There appears to be a number of what I shall call stories made up about reasons for selling a Busse or reasons for a person's interest in Busse Combat knives or reasons an individual's knife is better than anyone elses, etc.
Regarding interest in Busse, I'm sure there are speculators out there but I prefer to consider people's motives at face value until they prove differently. Regarding one knife being better than another, that's probably been going on since the first sharp rocks, with varying degrees of success. There are obviously elements of hype, personal preference, and actual performance differences in the ongoing argument. Jerry makes a good effort to build knives that withstand hard use (see the Cliff Stamp Battle Mistress).
6. There appears to be a number of so called Busse Combat knife fans that buy from Busse Company Store only to turn around and sell them.
There are probably better ways to make money than by flipping Busses.
5. There appears to be what I shall call the good ole' boy system in amongst the old time Busse Hogs.
Which, IMHO, is a good thing. You get to know people and trust them and know they're serious about the $1300 variant set hiding in your safe. So you're more likely to contact them when you want to buy or sell, than somebody who is unknown. Trust still counts for a lot in my book. That doesn't mean I'll deny trust to someone I don't know, it just means you have to stick around for a while and earn the higher levels.
4. There appears to be a number of old time collectors that are not regularly participating members on the forum.
Probably not, for whatever reason. Bladeforums can eat up lots of time. If you have a big collection already, there are maybe five or six people who have stuff you'd be interested in adding. You can talk directly to them, if needed. Also, there's not so much immediacy. Most things eventually come back on the market - even the wedding cake BM
3. There appears to be a substantial amount of what I shall call the "buddy" system amongst certain individuals in the effort to assist each other with sales of Busse Combat knives.
You watch out for your friends - it's easy to be away from your computer for the fifteen minutes a game warden run has lasted in the company store.
2. There appears to be a number of individuals into Busse Combat knives for the sole purpose of making a buck and not as an enthusiast of Busse Combat knives.
Doesn't make me happy, but probably true. Anything that makes money attracts people like that. I'd suggest again that there are better ways to make money than flipping Busses.
1. There appears to be a number of individuals into Busse for the mere benefit of themselves and not as collectors. This is what I shall call the "What's In It For Me" of "It's All About Me" mentality.
Sounds like #2, I think??? Anyway, in my experience this forum is populated mostly by good guys who like knives - either to use or collect or both. I remember Blade '03, where IdahoSkunk dug up a little utility knife Jerry had ground circa Desert Storm. There was a huge "gee-whiz" factor from all the Busse fans. It's about the excitement of finding something great, and a pleasure in real craftsmanship. There are bad apples everywhere, but they don't last long.
Thanks for reading to all those that chose to do so, made the effort, and took the time!!
Best way to get on the boat is go to www.bussecombat.com and put in an order for a Badger attack. You'll wait a bit, but no F5 stress. If you like it, than use and enjoy it. If not, then you can get rid of it and find something that works better.
