Trackrock Hammer-in Announcement

Me too. Looks like the temperature will be moderate.

They are predicting possible rain on Sunday, but looking good for the most part. (nothing like packing in the rain)

Have a great time, everyone!

I'm hoping for pictures, with captions putting faces to names. :)

We were only able to spend a few hours there today but my youngest daughter and I had a blast. She was able to get her first forging tips from a great young lady, Lily. After making a couple nail knives, that she's extremely proud of, Allen invited her to hammer on a full size knife. She now wants me to buy an anvil and forge, and I'm so good with that. [emoji4] Before we had to go, Andy was kind enough to grind her knives into shape. Thanks again everyone, we plan on spending much more time there this fall.

Thanks to Rick as well for letting me pick his brain on the finer points of leather work.

That is so awesome and the nail knives your daughter made look sharp! What a great experience and now she wants you to get an anvil and forge!! If I could just get my wife to one of those and have a similar positive experience :D

Hey gang,

Finally home. Beat tired, but damn content. A fine weekend with fine friends. A few of my better pics here - sorry some of them are huge! I don't know how to reduce them on the fotki.

Luca's rebar snake and forged knife with his own filework (thanks to Dennis), my humble dagger, blocks of cocobolo and rosewood per the Iron in the Hat raffle and a generous stranger, and finally the Rechsteiner collection. The epic hickory Nessmuk is my grand prize and treasure - a surprise gift from a great friend. (The lighting is off on this pic, but I never claimed to know what I was doing)

Luca busy with his file work. The boy worked full days - had to drag him away from the forge on Saturday evening.

Some of the first of the Frontier designs from W.A. Surls. Allen's on the top, mine on the bottom. (Blurry pic, but I was hungry!)

Luca is building a damn impressive Surls collection!

Awesome pictures!

My six year old looked at these with me and is smitten. If he has anything to say about it I should probably plan on attending in the Fall already. He'll be seven by then and relatively mature for his age. Would you judge that to be old enough for him to participate?

I'm struggling to get the pic uploaded, but I've got a great shot of DeWayne helping a boy forge a knife, and the kid couldn't have been 5 years old. There came a moment when every forge on one side of the barn had a kid banging on an anvil, and every one of them had to be under 12 years old.

Bring your boy! Believe me, he'll have the time of his life.

I agree with Tony, bring him. The young lady that helped my 10 year old daughter was 12 and has been forging for 4 years. I believe it's was her younger brother that was at the same anvil hammering on a railroad spike and he couldn't have been 5 or 6 and seemed to have a good understanding of what he was doing.

Here ya go! Check these out. It was pretty much the norm around the barn for a big chunk of the day Saturday.

Hard to describe how awesome everything about this get together at track rock is.
The kids getting involved, the wonderful people, Tony's and others pics, collections. Felt like I had died and gone to heaven.
Definitely on my bucket list to attend one day!!

Schedule permitting then, we will be there. It looks like a great time for *all* ages...

My daughter is 10 and may want to come as well. She sort of goes back and forth on interests though, and I won't even try and guess what she will want to do in 6 months. :p

Thanks for the info and the additional great pictures.

It's just down the road from you, Abe!

Heat...bring your daughter if she is inclined when the time comes. If I remember correctly, it was Nbrackett's 10 year old that forged her first knife this weekend, and is now insisting he buy her a forge. I see Nathan actually confirmed this in a previous thread.

I overheard another teenage girl tell her dad that she didn't want the new computer anymore...she wanted a forge instead. I get such a kick out of that.

My son is insisting on the same.
