Traditional and Modern pairings

I have a couple more pairs to show: a pair of liner locks and a pair of fixed blade hunters.

Kershaw Tremor in G10 with 8Cr13MoV blade, and Northfield Pioneer in burnt stag and 1095.

Blackjack Model 25 in stag with A2 tool steel, and Spyderco South Fork in G10 and CPM-S90V.

These two beauty's go together well: Trevor Burger EXK II in 20 times twisted Damasteel blade and bolster, stunning presentation grade Giraffe bone ( Trevor was kind enough to replace the original inner mammoth ivory that had warped slightly, it was absolutely gorgeous) and a Steve Dunn sole authorship shadow in creamy Elephant ivory. No thumb stud or clip on the Burger.

Today I have a fixed and folder combo. No picture. My 76 outlaw paired with a scrapyard neck knife in 52100 @ 60-62RC. I just put the 52100 to my hone followed by a strop, wow, that is some wicked steel. So wicked it was slicing toilet paper before I even stropped. Goodness, that was easy too. Kind of shocked I pulled my 76 out for some side by side cutting tests. The 76 held its own against the fixed blade and even after cutting some heavy mat board I gave the 76 a few licks on my barbers strop and it was melting through newsprint. Might be a great little pair. Both easily honed on Arkansas stones, both handy and the scrapyard can take the abuse. If I stripped the coating off the scrapyard and put some natural handles on it I bet most folks would say its a traditional too.

Thanks Gevonovich, it used to be the standard I got all my knives to and then I just stopped testing and didn't worry about it. Its neat to see I am getting them this sharp without focusing on it after the last few years of constant practice :)

I really enjoy the Art of Sharpening. I always hear the voice of virtuovice ( YouTube gentleman) in my head...lol

Glad to hear you are liking that 52100 steel Kevin...I've been really thinking of getting a scrapyard 311 or 411 as my "hiking" knife. I have a little BK14 right now, but I want something that has a bigger more comfortable handle.

Thanks Vic :)

I absolutely love it. I have had the knife for a while now and used it but I had not actually sharpened it well until just today. Way more impressed than I expected :)

I like the fact it is run 60-62 on this knife also. I look forward to seeing which one you end up with and your impressions!

Sweet, the edge looks really thin on that scrapyard. Usually they are way too thick for my taste on most of those pocket prybars :D

I agree 100 percent and yup I was very happy with it when I first checked it out. The only thing better would be if it came with a handle :foot:

Seriously, I got it to modify one day into my own little 52100 traditional pocket fixed blade :)

One day when I get ambitious. Then I can post it out in the real world :D
