Traditional and Modern pairings

The patina on the K390 looks great! I've got the same knife but haven't used it as much as I should, so it has only a few hints of patina at this point. I am actually surprised at how stain resistant it has been.

Thanks, it patinas quite nicely. It only took about three rounds of cutting up lemons/limes, apples, and some meat to get this patina. I don’t really worry too much about stains. I actually prefer this over stainless.

Strangest thing. I've got a Hawkbill in H1 that I prune with. I make my cuts and then just toss it on the ledge without thought to wipe it. It has developed rust! It's my only Spyderco to do so! I also use my K390 Stretch (among others) in the garden and while I'm more mindful to wipe off any moisture on the blade after making cuts, I rarely rinse residue away so some must surely stay. And yet the knife that is rusting is practically impervious to the elements and the non-stainless K-390 doesn't even have a patina yet.

I’ve never heard of H1 rusting, but I do know that sometimes you can see rust on the “H1” engraving they put on the blade because tiny remnants of non-stainless steel from the engraving machine get left behind in the little crevices of the engraving.

I found that cutting up citrus and leaving the juice on the blade for about 10 minutes will really get the K390 patina going.
