I put 5-10, there are days I don't use my knife but most days it comes out quite often. I parked my Grand Portage and started carrying my Vic Explorer and using it includes tightening a screw, using the toothpick to unclog a nozzle, the corkscrew to undo a knot, etc, etc.
I do cut things with the main blade occasionally. Anyway after a few months with the GP, I found I really missed all the other tools.

Between makin' lunch and snacks I'm constantly pulling out one of many to do any number of chores from opening the shredded cheese bag for my tamale, openin' mail and breakin' down boxes to food prep, just spreadin' mayo or diggin' out a pickle, even strippin' wire for workin' on the car or the house. I easily open and close he multitude of knives I carry at least 50 times a day.

SAK Executive probably one of the oldest knives I've ever owned

The first knife that started my SAK collection, it was given to me on the job from a fellow employee who had found it at the bottom of the hamper of uniforms that he picked up on his route. They kept the stuff they found for about 2 weeks and then the employees could either keep it or leave it in the giant pile of lighters, cheap knives and dime baggies that were left in pockets. I worked at the uniform rental place for a year and the first knife I was given was the Executive, the orange peeler fascinated me and I brought an orange to work everyday just so I could use the peeler from the Executive. : I still have mine. :)

SAK Pioneer, one of the most useful 'tools' that I own

I always carry it's brother the Farmer. I have a small clip on leather sheath I keep it in so I can just clip it and go when I leave the house. I use the the saw a lot and the awl a lot. It's basically a scout/utility knife with double cut saw, a great knife for the price. Everyone should have one or the other. :)

I guess at the end of the day, between all the knives I carry and use, I wouldn't be surprised if it's between 50-100+ times a day depending on my jobs for the day. :)

I am usually in the 5 to 10 times a day range as far as usage but I am always looking for something to slice, chop or open now that I finally have a working edge on it. Also, I am almost always digging and snipping on the fingers and nails with my SAK Classic.

I have gone with 5-10 but i guess it varies between once and many. In common with several other folk who have posted here my usage has likely dropped off a lot since i retired, I have been carrying a Red Micarta Beer Scout for a while now usually but not always with a CV Peanut in my watch pocket, peanut for loose threads envelopes and such, every thing else the Scout handles.

2-4 here. Eating lunch every day counts as one despite the different uses such as peeling, opening packaging and slicing food.

Any and all chances I have to pull out whatever traditional Im carrying during the day is a welcomed break from whatever stresses are going on around me so Im usually in the 5-10, sometimes more often group. Its the main reason I even carry traditional, the look and feel...the soul of the knife makes it much more than a simple tool to me so cutting chores, big and small are met with a grin as I reach for my watch pocket!

Nicely put

I ticked the 5-10 times option, but it really depends on the day, if I am gardening, hiking, or whatever, it can be a lot more. Never as much as it once was though, nor as much as I'd like :)

i checked 10 plus. during the work week its over 10 for sure. weekends it depends what im doing. i work as a marine electrician and mechanic so theres always stuff to cut or wire to strip.

This is a neat thread, it really made me pause and think about it some. Up until the last year or so, I used a knife very frequently during the day as my work usually facilitated knife use quite handily. Being a communications technician in the past, I used a knife for everything from stripping and splicing coax and fiber cables to opening packaging of various sorts and even preparing food now and then.

Now in my newfound vocation as a software engineer, I sit at a desk... Not the most conducive outlet for knife use. However, I have gravitated towards knives that provide a sense of tactile pleasure as I will often use a knife as a bit of a worry stone as I am puzzling over bits of code here and there. My lambsfoot knives in particular suit this role admirably (that swayback is an ergonomic marvel) as do some of my other wood clad wonders.

So that coupled with the fact that, like many of you, I find uses for my knives even when I could get away with not. I make a point to use my knives for food prep, even when there are kitchen knives on hand. I just enjoy using them and I enjoy having them available to me because I know that the moment I decide to leave them at home or in my office, I will certainly find that I miss them and could REALLY use one!

I selected 2-4 on simply a guess, thinking that my average daily uses would be around 3-4. Some days it's only once (though hardly ever not at all) and some days it's a dozen or more times.

Excellent post Dylan :) Great pics too

I had to do my vote based on an average... and then I under cut it...

I can go a week without using a knife once, But then, this year I've gone for a week without leaving the house, nor working at all.

or I can do a day where I have it out 20 times, and make 40 cuts...

So, if I'm working, as in employed in my trade, it's usually about 5 to 10 a day, or more sometimes... This year I've been unemployed 80% of the time, so I'd say 5 times A Week, most of the time. But then, Wednesday last week, was a 10 times plus out of pocket, 30 or more cuts day..

So I averaged best guesses of what I can remember of this season/summer to 10 plus... and voted 5 to 10 per day to be safe.

Does taking it out and playing about with it count as use as well? If so, then it's dozens of times:thumbsup:

But many times a day for instance a food packet or suchlike needs opening. I'm a big fruit eater so that needs a knife, Then in the garden in autumn or spring a busy time for a knife user and horti-fan. Even though the car's brand-new, I keep one there and it's useful for letting air out of the tyre valves, but not every day:D

Actually, I look for excuses and opportunities to use a knife:D even in the shop I've been know to trim up vegetables that have excess stalk or leaf, why pay for waste?
