Well I had to really think about that. First off I carry a couple traditonals EVERY DAY and don't use them for several days because often I have some modern, locking, CPM- S___V, carbon fiber miracle of supposed wonderfulness clipped to the pocket .
But
when I do carry a traditional as my main EDC, usually one of my several Trappers, I had to say 2-4 though very often more but occasionally less . . . so 2-4 it is.

In my defense I will say the knife that is coming to me in the mail right now is a bone handled, plain carbon steel slip joint. So yah . . . a couple days and I will be back on the wagon and away from the fickle temptresses of high vanadium and designer locks.

I voted 5-10 times a day. I carry one traditional (my 77 Sheepfoot Barlow) and have it on me 24/7, using it for many misc tasks throughout the day such as slicing my morning bagel, opening the mail, cutting down boxes, opening feed bags, slicing an apple, at dinner it cuts my steak or pork chop.

It rests on the nightstand beside my bed when I sleep. First thing when I get out of bed I drop it into my pants pocket and the day begins. This Barlow is my constant companion and performs all my cutting tasks.

Since the Photobucket change I lost them all. Will have to snap one in the morning and post with Imgur :D

I voted 5-10x per day since my Alox Pioneer is just so amazingly useful.

Not trying to turn this into the Rough Rider appreciation society, there's another thread for that I know, but these have become my main users for a number of very good reasons. Not only do they allow me to keep my more valuable and older traditionals all lined up nicely on the rack I built specially for them, but they are all stockmans (my personal favourite pattern) and extremely good knives for everyday carry and have naturally worked their way to the front line of usage for that very reason. My particular favourite is the small amber bone number, the first RR I ever bought. I carry it daily now and use it for everything from sharpening pencils, opening parcels and packaging, cutting rag in my occupation as a Painter and Decorator and many other daily tasks. I like it so much I bought a spare in black bone. My other daily user is the larger red bone medium stockman for more heavy duty work and particularly nice for eating an apple with, yesterday I used it for de-scaling a sea bream for lunch. I keep it on the dresser with the large old yellow one as neither are legal carry in England and keep a small one in my pocket all the time. Perfect knives for everyday use.

I should mention...I'm a 2-4 times a day man. :)

Does coon fingering count??? :D John
Well of course it does :) and why shouldn't it? It serves a purpose that otherwise would not have been met, so yeah, that sounds about right to me, mark me down for a few more times aday then!

At a minimum, slice an apple, cut a cigar. Maybe sharpen a couple of pencils on my school bus. I have to do that out of the sight of kids, as any knife is contraband in that environment, but a kid is often grateful for a sharp pencil. I checked 2-4 because that is typical, but on occasion it can run to many more uses in a day.

Okay, excuse my ignorance but what is "coon fingering"? It must be above board if Peregrin's involved!

It's a reference to how raccoon's will pick up something and look it over and over and over in their hands, constantly examining it for it's value/need/worth, much like we knife knuts may do with our knives, hence the term coon fingering.

There's another term that I know Tony Bose said once, chicken eyeing, I think that is a similar slang for checking something over real well.

I see. Not an expression in common parlence this side of the pond Gary. Appreciate the explanation.

The daily uses change depending where I'm at, when in town they are mostly used for opening mail/packages and food cutlery, on the Tick Ranch and or in the shop they become that much needed third hand, working on equipment, construction/repair to outdoor work, folders are always on the job.
Where they are used countless times, a fixed blade is a better carry than opening and closing folders in areas where they are being used often and also in dirty conditions where dirt/grit can get into the workings of a folder causing premature wear.

Nice, I think this is one of the best valued folder that SAK puts out, I use mine all the time, especially the awl, then the screwdriver and lastly the blade, as I have other knives for cutting but I do use this one more for food prep/lunch type things.

Yesterday, with my Buck 110:
Opened a bunch of packages. New tools! Yay! I got a .22 nail gun for a deck I'm building. Also I opened a miter saw that I got a while back but still haven't used yet.
Cut twine to tie back some plants that were drooping into my work area. Two birds with one stone on that one.
Sharpened a carpenter's pencil. I prefer a belt sander for that job but I don't carry one of those in my pocket.
Cut the plastic wrap off a couple new screen doors for the same house
At one point slipped the blade underneath the screen door to pick up one of the spring-loaded wheels and get it back on the track because I didn't want to get my fingers stuck under there.

I feel like there's more, maybe I'll remember later. Either way, the 110 has been good to me these past few months. Fine enough point for fine point work, but sturdy enough to rip through plastic packaging and other thicker stuff without worrying about it. It's not as good a splinter digger as a small slipjoint, but it's close.

I use my SAK an awful lot day to day. But the usage varies, so I went with 2-4 on average although that is probably light in terms of frequency.

I really like traditional slip joints. But I definitely have a problem with actually putting a GEC slip joint in my pocket as it just seems redundant to the SAK capabilities. I tend to carry a modern with the SAK if I'm "thinking about it" or only the SAK if I am not actually thinking about it. It's almost always in my pocket and I miss it if I discover I left the knife lie on my desk or whatever and not in my pocket. It is certainly worse than a cell phone in terms of my perceived desire to have it with me all the time.

I voted 2-4, mainly I use my traditionals for apples and other light duty food type stuff.

Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley , every time I see you post about the Primble it brings a smile to my face...it definitely wound up in the right place :D
