That's a beautiful little barlow, and what in the name of god have you bin cutting with that poor thing. :p
I'm staying with some relatives in Decatur illinois. He grills out or smokes meat quite often and the knife has been into that. I've also been consuming a fair amount of peaches before the season is over... Instead of eating them like an apple I've been using the little knife to cut them up. Have a good day Ode

Glad to hear from you guys, and I understand the variance of usage
Today myself I can recall 6 times
One I loaned it to a person to trim some foam packing material and he was like 'wow this is sharp ' :)

That always makes me smile and at the same time wonder how many people have never used a truely sharp knife.

I'm no pro sharpener but after sharpening some kitchen knives for someone ... I was told "maybe don't sharpen them that much next time" ... or at least not the paring knives ... his wife had about 4 bandaids on from being used to cutting things against her thumb or in her hand.

Use my Farmer today to cut open several boxes of product I was installing.

...Now in my newfound vocation as a software engineer, I sit at a desk... Not the most conducive outlet for knife use. However, I have gravitated towards knives that provide a sense of tactile pleasure as I will often use a knife as a bit of a worry stone as I am puzzling over bits of code here and there....

Indeed! I love the feel of jigged bone and often handle one of my knives while watching video or listening to a speaker. [Edit: I mean a person speaking, not a "loudspeaker". (Do people still call them that?)]

2-4 times has a strong lead, today I also fall into that category as well

Well, scratch that, just back in from cleaning gutters, quite high at the back of the house, and trimmed off branches that were encroaching the roof, so a few more instances of usage...so far :)

its difficult to say, some day i dont use it at all. some days i just use it to fidget, or open and close the blade. often they sit at home because i worry they fall out of my scrubs pockets.

I checked 2-4 times, which I think is about right. Before I retired a few years ago, it would've been the "Greater than ten times" box that got checked. ;) Good thread!

Well today was helping my brother hang drywall ... so does it count how many times I cut something or count both that and how many times my brother borrowed my knife since his wasn't sharp? ... and I don't have enough fingers and toes so ... I think that means I need a new knife right? ...

Well it was worth a shot ... wasn't it?

I'd have to say 5-10 but I had to think about it, many days are over 10 but if I averaged it over a month 5-10 would win. Having said that, I have to admit that I use my knife more often than probably necessary, but that bag of chips looked stubborn, better not risk it!

I will say I don't always use my carry knife more than necessary. If I'm in the garage breaking down boxes, I'm going to grab the box cutter off of the pegboard. On the other hand, when in the kitchen I will use my knife to open a food package, such as chips, instead of the kitchen scissors because it is more convenient. (Making sure my wife isn't looking, who has "trained me" that my knife is not clean enough for opening food products, let alone actually cutting the food). As for drywall, I cringe when cutting it because it is so dulling, but have done it with my pocket carry because my razor cutter was not handy.

Yeah the drywall wasn't something I would notmally use my carry knife ... I'd have a working razor knife ... but in an unexpected day just used mine to score it and break so wasn't terrible for my knife ... but will give me a little zen time sharpening it up this coming weekend.

Normally I'm real hesitant on handing anyone my knife also ... but in order to get the day caught up it was sacrificed today ... but nothing that can't be sharpened back up.

Think it just stocked up a hundred or so uses to bring up my weeks average o_O

I know what you mean. I gladly pull out my knife to open an ice cream sandwich, with perhaps one of the flimsiest wrappers there is. Just something satisfying about the feel of the jigged bone, the snap of the blade opening, and the effortless slice of the paper... :p

Opened 4 packages, and 11 letters.
Pared and sliced an apple. all with my trusty Barlow!
Cut up 3 boxes, but used a slim box cutter with snap-off blades which was right there!
Is that cheating??
:D:D

The packaging for my frozen burritos are always a pain, anymore I don't even try, I just automatically pull out the knife. In fact on a lot of packaging I don't even bother, I hate trying to open a package and then pulling out the knife, so now I skip a step and just pull out the knife right away. Life is easier with that.

Hah, not cheating at all, and not surprised with you having your trusty Barlow at hand and in duty!

I had multiple uses today, over the 10 for sure, ranging from several folders at hand, as I say, they each serve a purpose ;)
