Traditional folders and watches/timepieces

B BrotherJim : a watchmaker friend of mine made me notice thatsince the making of old timers (could not resist 😉) oils have drastically changed and may affect the accuracy of the watches. He is very reluctant at "cleaning" thoroughly old movements, he does so only when a part needs to be removed and changed.

The usual solemn communion gift. I picked this one because the sturdy Besançon 17 jewelled movement fits a Greek (Timeo Danaos etc... 😄) made case!
Knife also has an international flavor, a much appreciated gift from waynorth waynorth !

Jolipapa Jolipapa Very nice items. I sometime think that the real drawback of having a 'pagan' family was missing out on the gifts people get at Communion, Bar Mitzvah, or the other ceremonies of other beliefs ;) Mind you, it's the only drawback if I were honest🤣

Haha! I was also in such a family! Big bro'and sista got them watches, but the only evocation of a communion watch was once by my Grand'Ma while staring at a watchmaker shop window!
The positive thing is that noone will ever show my descendants a picture of a ridiculously looking teenager! 😉 (marriage pictures will suffice 😂😂😂)

I usually don't post much in these "knives and ..." threads, although I did post my daily wear watch here (with a Todd Davison custom).

Anyway, my father passed a few months ago, three days shy of his 88th birthday. My family and I went to see/check-on/help my mother in the aftermath (I went solo for the funeral) and my mom said she thought my dad would want me to have the two watches in the picture. My brother-in-law, who neither wears a watch nor carries a pocketknife, stumbled upon his well-loved SAK and gave that to me.

The gold watch is a Jules Jürgensen that my mother bought my father as a wedding gift. They were married in '66, so it is probably from that year or a few previous. It's a 14K gold case, including the back, and was from the era when the company was using high-quality Swiss movements. Amazingly, it still functions flawlessly. The Omega is a Seamaster 120 that I think the old man bought himself for his 75th birthday. It needed work, which was shockingly expensive (plus an exorbitant €100 per link for the extras I needed). The knives are his SAK, which he carried for years, and a Camillus he bought me when I was in college. En route to visit me in CA (from his home in PA), he stopped in Santa Fe for the balloon festival. He purchased the knife from Santa Fe Stoneworks and it features mother-of-pearl, sterling, and lapis inlays. Actually, the realization a few years ago that he wasn't getting any younger, and that I should retire this knife from daily carry due to it's sentimental value, is what led me to BF at first in search of a new knife.

Apologies for the long-winded post and the poor photo...

This Tissot rock watch from 1985 belonged to my Father in law Bill. I’ve read online they didn’t make many with the matching bracelet. Bill enjoyed fashion. Fashion ignorant myself, we found camaraderie after dinners talking life over the bottle he kept in the garage.

GEC 538210 in curly maple. The figure isn’t quite as nice on the mark side.

Three plus year wait from local AD. Cell phone pic doesn't really do the dial justice.

Keeping it knife related, you can see the bracelet on the edge of this shot. This John Lloyd knife is a razor.

Been waiting longer than that 3yr for my Daytona (either white or black, don't care), and all my dealer could get for me during that time was a Hulk, DSSD D-Blue, and Tudor Pepsi GMT. I had to buy my Rolex Pepsi GMT II, and SD43 on the 3rd party market about 3-4 years ago (2018 or 2019). I almost regret turning one down for $17K in 2018, thinking I'd get one from the AD faster and cheaper. Nope prices have doubled :(

Great collection ... subs are all I have owned before this. Was on the white or black list too. Am green with envy over your Hulk! 👽 ;) No longer available in that config :( Would like a blue / blue sub but not at white gold price.

It's been a minute since I've visited this thread, I'll have to take some time and go back through the posts, looks like a lot of lovely watches and knives are being displayed here!

This is my GPW that is doing great service, while I miss my Sinn 656 this is a close as I'll get back to one like that. And a nice Hen&rooster whittler has been a good companion as well.

It's become a safe queen due to rising prices, without a single mark on it. But I do wear the Pepsi GMT II Mk2, SD43, and DDS D-Blue. I have a second DSSD D-Blue that is also a safe queen. I wear my Tudor Pepsi GMT, and all of my Omegas, except my Speedy Tuesday is a safe queen as well.
