Traditional folders and watches/timepieces

It's been a minute since I've visited this thread, I'll have to take some time and go back through the posts, looks like a lot of lovely watches and knives are being displayed here!

This is my GPW that is doing great service, while I miss my Sinn 656 this is a close as I'll get back to one like that. And a nice Hen&rooster whittler has been a good companion as well.

I love this old 656, I'm really not a fan of display backs so the newer 556 was a bit of a downgrade to me, especially to lose the anti-magnetism protection for the display back seems a little silly.

I agree, this GPW has a nice black matte face so it is easy to read at any angle

I guess I´m a bit weird (if one should look at my knife collection next to my watch collection).
I basicly only collect and wear knifes that have a vintage look to them (or are vintage), traditional is my preference when it comet to knives.
When it comes to watches I am 99% quartz. Vintage, new, HAQ or RC and GPS are all wellcome. I have a few mechanical watches in the collection, but I never wear them due to the poor timekeeping in comparison to quartz.

When it comes to watches I am 99% quartz. Vintage, new, HAQ or RC and GPS are all wellcome. I have a few mechanical watches in the collection, but I never wear them due to the poor timekeeping in comparison to quartz.

I use an app called WatchTracker to see how my watches are keeping time, and to alert me to when there might be a problem. I don't check every day, but the watches that I use will get checked for a few days or weeks each year.

Some of my Mechanical watches match the performance or quartz, or exceed it. My quartz watches typically gain 0.2 to 0.3 sec/day, or 1-3 minutes a year, except for a few HAQ that only gain 5-10 seconds a year (Omega X-33, Grand Seiko, Bulova hi-freq)

My latest measurements of the Rolex DSSD D-Blue run between +0.8 and -0.2 sec/day, and since Sept 10th I have only gained +0.1 seconds TOTAL over the 51 days (on the wrist and winder during that time). The Average rate is +/- 0.0 sec/day for the past couple of months, and the spread between how fast or behind it runs vs atomic time has never been more than 7 seconds ahead or behind atomic during that time. I just got the watch back from Rolex for a service at the end of August when I started this timekeeping session, as prior to that it was gaining a fairly consistent +2.5 sec/day over the past year. Rolex claims +/- 2.0 max sec/day gain or loss as the official specs, so it was slightly out of spec and they regulated it at no charge.

My Rolex Sea Dweller 43 had rotated between wrist and winder during that same time as well, these being the main 2 watches between which I rotate. In the past 92 days it has only lost 53 seconds total. It's off by less than a minute every 3 months! And averaging -0.57 seconds per day. That's only 3 1/2 minutes lost a year if it stays this way.

Over the past 3 years of ownership (July 2019) the average timekeeping of this SD43 is actually anywhere from +1.2 to -0.6 seconds per day (within specs), and has averaged only -0.3/day since ownership. So, over the life of the watch it's really only lost <2 minutes a year on average and also runs as accurate as a quartz watch.

In comparison, my Citizen Eco-drive watches (6 of them) run about +0.3 sec/day on average, or about +110 to +120 seconds a year fast ((2 Min/yr). That is still much better than some of my cheaper mechanical watches that can gain or lose up to 15-30 seconds a day (several Seikos). Even my Omega Moonwatch is within +5 seconds a day vs real time, and it's not a COSC certified watch like my Omega divers that only run +2 to +4 sec/day.

Boker Barlow Copper Micarta is my main pocket trad for November. Picked up some black spots on the crystal, like paint overspray or something. Not sure where. Need to see if I can get the stuff off. Photos later in Nov should be better.
