Traditional French Fry day

Je porterai Le Donjon après le petit déjeuner, mais j'ai eu cet opinel pour nourrir les chevaux ce matin.

Managed to take a decent photo this morning.

Some mild pitting, but that is of no consequence. What is important is the full blade, which looks to have never touched a stone.

Will Power Will Power described these old Davids as rustic in build and I agree wholeheartedly. They were made before the laguiole's renaissance, a humble knife for unassuming people. This is a working tool through and through.

I like it. I'll be on the hunt for more of these old knives and will one day add a nightingale and a seahorse to the bunch.

Grown very fond of this inexpensive Tonneau. The finish on the bolsters is a bit crude but the action of the knife, in hand feel and sharpness is on an excellent level. Nice flush backspring and no blade play (not sure I've ever had a French knife with blade-play? Must be an Anglo-American feature....😂)

Thanks The Zieg and Will Power, and that's a mighty hefty blade on the fine old Le Sabot as well.

Chui, I love the style and handle on your Londie, and interesting paperwork to accompany it.

Here is an early post WWII Yatagan model with a Pradel blade stamp. Some very nice multi-colored horn on this old fellow.
I think a gendarme would have been proud to carry this knife. :)

Just spent a lot of time checking out a German knife reviewer Stefan Schmalhaus giving really well done and interesting videos on French knives. Really enjoyed the various knives, history and makers. The food and wine in the videos were an added bonus. One maker I wanted more info in was a lady knife maker, Marie Tailardat, I enjoyed looking at her Le 1925 model. Anyone have any of her work?
Thank you for your kind words!

S schmalhaus Very pleased to see you contributing, your videos are always of great interest and excellently prepared.

The first one on Le Liadou really struck me..so much so I feel another Knife Fever overrunning me 😻

Regards, Will
Will,

Le Liadou is a very nice working knife, but you may want to opt for the smaller one. The larger is definitely in belt sheath territory! The smaller one in the photo isn't too much smaller, but definitely leaves less of a footprint. IMG_20230313_053656.jpgIMG_20230313_053654.jpg
