I thought it might be interesting to have a thread consolidating the various traditional pattern "grail" knives of our members, whether they be "custom" or "production".

It will be interesting to see the variety of tastes and preferences represented within the forum and it might serve as a useful reference for our members to help them choose patterns of interest in the future.

Please add an image of your grail knife (if possible) along with a description.

If there is no image available, don't let that keep you from participating.

Have fun...:cool::thumbup:

...As for me, the knife that I keep hoping to "win" when I go to the Blade Show and put in for the Bose drawing is a 4" stockman by Tony Bose similar to this one:

It would be a great companion to my three blade sowbelly by Reese Bose and just an awesome knife on every level. Any knife from Wilfred Works would be a dream come true for any knife aficionado, but that's my current "grail" knife and has been for some time now...

Edited To Add:

Folks, let's limit this to Traditional Knives as appropriate to this sub-forum. Thank you...

I don't have one but I have always wanted a Remington 46 Cattle Knife as mint as possible.

Well, ANY of the old Remington patterns, specifically a R1306 single blade lockback and any multi blades. Stockmen, whittlers, congress', trappers etc. One of the comic strips in an old copy of Knife World is of a man dreaming of a storefront with the sign, "Old Remington and Winchester knives, all $5.00 and under", on it. That's me.

Custom knife, ANYTHING by Tony Bose, but I really like that stockman Blues!

Attainable, I've been looking at getting my first custom slipjoint, still. Also, want to get a GEC Pioneer, and a Queen canoe. Easily attainable.

Well, your post is certainly indicative of good taste in general but doesn't really narrow it down to your grail knife. The idea is to make a choice (even if it's only the current version of your traditional grail knife). ;)

Hi,

Pretty simple for me. A Camillus #21 Pony Jack just like my Grandfather's. I don't why, but I haven't found one yet.

I would venture to guess that most folks "grail" knife would come from the workbench of the Bose gentlemen. I would die for a 3 - 5 blade sowbelly such as this.

Excellent choice. (If I do say so myself )

Let me whet your appetite then, Corey. Here's a look at mine by Reese Bose:

Definitely worthy of a grail knife, imho.

You mean I have to choose one of the Remingtons . Well, ever since reading an article in Tactical Knives about the R1306 (yep ;)), and it's Cold Steel/Queen and AG Russell reproductions, the original R1306 has been high on my list. My Queen Mountain Man, and R1306 1990 repro from Camillus haven't come close to sating this hunger.

Well, I've looked all over the internet, but haven't found any pics of the lockback bullet pattern from the 30's. :( Man, I hope I have right model number. Gotta find that dog eared issue of TK now. If it wasn't the 1306, it was something very similar. It wasn't one from the 80's, I believe Steve Dick wrote the article, and compared the AG Russell version and the Queen version to his friend's 1306. It was beautiful to me.:D

While looking I've found some great custom repro's though ;).

I'm at work so I can't take time to find a pic and post it right now, but a Swayback in mammoth ivory from Tony Bose is the be all end all for me. I'm pretty sure Kerry has one...

Ken Erikson 5-bladed Stockman.

Or perhaps a custom Puukko like either of these. The first one is a custom by Simo Passi of Finland. The second one is a custom by Ray Richards.

Or maybe the ultimate, a genuine, antique Puukko at some yard sale or something that nobody but me knows what it is...like this! I found this picture on an all Finnish language website so I don't know a thing about it other than it's old, it is birch bark, and I love it.

Holy cats that is sublime Elliott.
And probably worth more than both my vehicles combined.
Congrats on owning my grail knife. :D

I have a couple of grails, one fixed and one folding.

The first is a Bose cattleman, much like this. I'd like it with stag scales though.

The second is a Scottish Dirk, made by Vince Evans. I can't remember when I first saw it, but I've never forgotten about this lovely blade.

Thanks, though I think you might be overstating a bit. ;)

I was fortunate enough to draw a Reese Bose "Rodgers Whittler" in buffalo horn at the Blade Show a few years back. Shortly thereafter I traded that knife to a forum member for the sowbelly. We each ended up with the knife we wanted.

Christian, thanks for reminding me of what my other Bose grail knife is.

In fact, I think that just might be first in line. (I've mentioned it to Tony more than once in the past and maybe some day...who knows?)

A 4 line Camillus Elephant Toe (2nd pict) or a Platts Jumbo Swell center Toenail (1st pict)... (photos courtesy of elephanttoenails)

No problem Elliott. Although I consider that one of my "grail" knives, I'm comforted in the fact that at least it is attainable as I am on Reese's list. Just four more years and I'll have my very own Bose masterpiece.

Please provide information about your posted selections and/or images...thanks.
