Traditional "Holy Grail" Knife: What's Your Pick?

I would love to have one of Tony or Reese's big stockmans but my ultimate Grail slippie has to be this big boy............:)

Ah Elliott I've got one for you. My grail knife is an original bone handled never used 8OT. If it has as good fit and finish as the other newer 8OT's I've had then I would be in heaven. My current grail knife that I DO have is my Hen and Rooster 4 inch stag stockman. Thing ground blades, good fit and finish, I can't complain. And you know what is best about me wanting the 8OT? I don't think it will cost me as much as your Bose will, but it is probably harder to find.

My traditional grail knife would be an equal end rounded bolster cattle knife with master spear, sheepsfoot and pen or clip blades. I've never actually seen one but the Bose pictured above from kamagong is mighty close.

has to be single backspring remington musk--crocus polish.the old rem of course

Dennis, here's one I think you'll appreciate along those same lines...An original Winchester (1920-1940) #2923. Single backspring, double-end "Premium (Texas) Jack":

Picked it up at the Blade Show a couple years back while strolling along with Waynorth.

How about this one that Ken Erickson made for me. That kind of what we're talking about?

As much as I drool over all of the knives I see posted in this sub-forum, this would be my "grail" knife.

I hope Mr. Hanson doesn't mind my borrowing this pic.

Elliott, I'm going to give my doctor your name as an explanation as to why, at 35, I just had a heart attack.

Take two slipjoints and call me in the morning...:p

I'm sure Ken will be concerned but pleased to read your comment. ;)

I see where this is going. Its the "Blues Already Owns Your Grail Knife" thread.

Oh, I can fill up quite a few pages and threads with knives I covet which are owned by our fellow members. And when I'm done with those, I can start showing images of the ones that went to folks off the forum...;)

You always ask the best questions, Elliot. My grail knives were both made by Ken Erickson, which I think is indicative of the good taste that we both have in makers and Ken's good taste in patterns.

The first would be one much like your cattle knife, but I'd want mine with spear, spey, and punch blades, instead of the configuration you requested. The other is this replica of a Challenge trapper that Ken recently made for some lucky soul. Something about that clipped spey blade just speaks to me.

Both of them in O1, please.

In terms of collecting older knives, one of these damascus Henckels would be near the top for me. Hard to find, especially with the gold leaf still intact. (I'm pretty sure Elliott doesn't have one, yet.)
