Traditional Knife and Gun Picture Thread

Looks like a type 99 that’s missing the dust cover. The chrysanthemum appears to be ground off, so the emperor would not be offended with it’s surrender.
Yes, unfortunately there is no dust cover & the chrysanthemum has been ground off after the war ended. The cleaning rod & bayonet have also gone MIA during the venture from his time overseas.

I would like to pick up an Arisaka type 38 or 99 one day myself. Back when they were readily available at a reasonable price, I had no interest in them. But, of course, when surplus prices went through the roof, that’s when I decided I needed a couple of them.🥴

I hate to even think about the days when there were literally barrels of surplus rifles & police trade-ins available, not to mention all the pocket knives that could be had for next to nothing bc no one looked twice at them back then... Well hindsight is 20/20... 🤷‍♂️

And it hasn't been that long. Late 90s my wife got me an unissued Yugo 48 for under $100. I picked up a number of Mosins - Finn M39, 91/30, M44, all for under $100. All of them were in really good condition, my son's 91/30 appears to be unissued. And ammo prices...I regret not picking up more when I could get surplus Yugo 8mm 900 round tin for $50, 7.62X54R 440 round tin for around $40. Those days are long gone. If I could go back to those days I would pick up an Arisaka and an SMLE Mk III. My son picked up an SMLE dated 1918. My M39 has a long history. The receiver came from a Russian M91 (dated 1907) and was assembled as an M39 in 1942.

A little over forty years ago, the local VFW was selling their 1917 Remington Enfield rifles. I picked this one up for $50, an astronomical sum for a 12 year old, but fortunately I had just finished casting 1000 egg sinkers for $50 for a bait and tackle shop (and I even supplied the lead!) 😂
I guess you could call it the American Dream when a kid can turn a bucket of scrap lead wheel weights into an Enfield rifle. 🤣IMG_4940.jpeg

My Yugo M48 was $140 but it was mint... uncle got one too that I ordered for him with my C&R. Another one that was minty and about $150 was a Finn M39 (favorite Mosin) and I recall $30 M44's and $40 Turk Mausers... those were the days. $140 Romanian SKS's... I missed the real cheap ones but the Romanian PD rifle shoots better than my Russian.

It is. I don’t have an old model to compare it to, but I’m happy with it. I don’t feel the “need” for an older model.

I have the opposite issue, I don't have a new one to compare it to. I do know the internals have changed though with the new generation models.
These old ones are as smooth as melted butter.
I'm glad to see they haven't gave up on the old "Snake Guns"

I love your combo btw, you can't get too much better than a classic Colt & a Waynorth!!! 😎

(Here's an old pic of mine, 1960's era Colt & Case/Bose Eureka Jack)

I think if I had that I wouldn’t feel the need to get one of the new pythons. That thing is a beauty! And the Case/Bose Eureka Jack…chef’s kiss.🤌

Enjoying the knives but especially the Python's. Here's mine, it is a gift from 25 years back, from my Dad. He and I loved the same things - firearms, hunting, fishing, a good knife, etc. Posed today in my backyard with a Case 6392 - both made in 1987. We are wrapped up in pine pollen - one week down, three to go - the entire world is covered in yellow pollen. OH

Amazing examples on both accounts Bruce!

I’ve been on a classic revolver kick - specifically .357s. This is a “classic” model S&W 27. This one unfortunately has the “Hillary Hole” so that’s a pretty significant detractor IMO, but was willing to overlook it. I see now S&W has started producing non-locking revolvers. There is a classic 19 non-locking and a new Lipsey Mountain Gun. The Mountain Gun is on my short list.

I carried this one in a Galco Big Iron holster while running errands today. Still cold enough in my neck of the woods to conceal carry with a heavy Outback coat.
