Traditional Knife and Gun Picture Thread

Here's an old deal. Bout as traditional as it gets. These are a set of Pommel Bags, think saddle bags but they go over the horn instead of behind the saddle. Very common in the Gold Rush days here in California and thereafter. Kinda died off once cartridges come around. The fur is customer supplied buffalo. First time I ever made these. I was kind of driving around at night with out headlights cause I was long on pattern and short on instructions.

The right side has a holster under the flap and a small pocket behind. The left side has a regular bag under the flap with a gusset.

With a Smith K frame. The holster on the pattern will fit K frames and Colt type single actions as well as numerous cap and balls.

Those are really cool! Not keen on the fur personally but the bags are really neat.

Thanks F FSUwelder1212 the hair on was traditional particularly back in the day here in California where it was grizzly hair that was used a lot. You'd see a lot of matching pommel bags and saddlebags with the matching hair on hide. It was a Californio kinda deal. This buff was left over after I made him some wooly shotgun chaps first.

Here's the customer got em on in AR. Coolest part he took the buff with a .45-70 Sharps.

Something a little different for me. A crossdraw holster for a J frame Smith. Built for a fellow BF member. The knife presented to me by none other than Jack Black himself! @Jack Black

That old Smith Mod 36 has seen many a mile and thousands of rounds.

The holster is actually for a 3" J Frame but thats easy to fix when ya only got a 2", just make it a little longer.

The holster was one of two for the same guy's order. The other a strong side pancake for a Savage 07. Trot on down to your local gunstore and find a holster for that one!

Awesome set of bags, Dave! I don't know how I missed them.
So cool with the back story. Puts it into a whole new context, for me. Thanks!

Nice to see some outside the waistband holsters. Living in GA we have open carry and I am tired of carrying IWB. Which seems like all the holsters I see and own are IWB. So these have my juices flowing now. I am older now and feel more comfortable with open carry. Basically means, I don't care what people think anymore. :)
