TRADITIONAL KNIFE GAW , The “MY TURN FOR A GAW” Part II

Some of my best memories are of fishing and swimming and riding motorcycles/4 wheelers/3 wheelers at a lot on Twin Lakes in WA.

Fishing with my family, especially my Grandma and Grandpa. My boys go now, and are making more memories.

Thank you for the opportunity to win that lovely knife.

You’ve taught him well, those are some bruisers!!

Yay I got permission to join in :)

This scene - a watercolor by JAMES FITZGERALD (who in my estimation captures the majesty & moods of Mt. Katahdin in his paintings, with empathy and eloquence) Circa 1960 - entitled AUTUMN AT KATAHDIN

Isn't it amazing how something so simple can represent so much? I love simplistic and minimalist art...almost abstract where a vast array of emotions and feelings are described with very little. I spent some time in Maine when I was young I don't remember a lot but what I do remember was beautiful.

Leslie, that is a beautiful knife, and I would very much like to be "IN". Although I've never been to Africa, as a hunter I share your affinity for the Dark Continent.
For my family, the Big Island of Hawaii is our magical place.

Beautiful photos and beautiful family! You are a lucky dude :)

Leslie, thank you for your generous GAW. I certainly am in!

I have lived in several states in the US and Mexico, and have visited a good number of countries and places, having enjoyed each and every one of them. To pick a favorite is no brainer; my heart and recurrent thoughts will always be linked to home, along the banks of the Lower Rio Grande in Texas (right where the US meets Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico), where it merges the intertwined history of two countries, two languages and multiple current and preceding cultures, including all those from my ancestors, both Native American and European.
Raul

I think it is great that you recognize the historical significance of that area and link it fondly to your home and happy place. There is much to be learned with respect to everyone's language and ancestory.

It gave me my independence back as up until I got it I had to ask people to take me somewhere, or schedule public transport(thank God this county runs a public transit) so yeah long short story to say this thing makes me happy.

Edit: uh I'm in please:rolleyes:

Thanks for sharing that! Everyone deserves a second chance and it sounds like you are making the most out of yours. You must be incredibly proud of that truck how very significant :)

My happy place lately has been Ona Beach in Oregon.

Amazing :) The beaches of Oregon are often overlooked in the "beach" conversation but I can confirm they are special. When it isn't raining a lot, I love visiting the Oregon coast :)

First off. This is not an entry. But I appreciate your generosity, Leslie. Great knife and great giveaway. But I am awed by the posts and want to participate.

This is my place. The daintree Forrest Queensland Australia.

Well said sir! We never know where our journeys might take us. That must have been AMAZING to dive the GBR :)

Cedar Breaks Ranch, in South Dakota’s Cheyenne River breaks. This photo hardly does it justice as a “happy place”, but I spent some of the best days of my life in this country.

That actually sounds like some good adventures. They don't all have to be sunny and warm and sandy. I appreciate my winter trips too and don't like being held back by the seasons :) You are a man's man for sure Henry.

My happy place is Charleston,SC.

I had the pleasure of visiting Charleston for the first time last year...it was really nice and I wish I could have stayed longer. Like you, I enjoy the plantations and gardens and there is actually a lot to see and do there (aside from fishing or golfing of course). My daughter just graduated from College of Charleston and she really, really enjoyed her time there. Good luck with your retirement plans I think that would be a perfect place for it.

I have thought about that hunt several times a week for the last six years so I guess that would be considered an extremely happy place.

WOW!!! That thing looks huge :)

I was born and bred in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Beautiful photos Randy that waterfall looks so nice and peaceful.

Thank you for the generous GAW, Leslie, I am in.
My happy place is in the Sierra Mountains, backpacking with my wonderful wife.

Yes!!! The Sierras are an incredible mountain range looks like you take full advantage :) And how lucky are you that your wife goes backpacking too. I'm headed up in the next few weeks probably closer to Yosemite this trip.

Some of my best memories are of fishing and swimming and riding motorcycles/4 wheelers/3 wheelers at a lot on Twin Lakes in WA..

Wow those are some great looking fish you guys did well! Washington is such a beautiful state I love going up there. Beautiful family :)

A few happy places and the grand little ones...

Incredible photos and beautiful family :)

My favorite place to visit is Yellowstone . We have been there 4 times and soon to be 5 .

My favorite place though is my Great Room at Christmas time . This has been the time of year when ALL of my Kids and their Kids and their Kids are here .

I have Many Favorite knives but these 2 are kind of Very Special to me . The smaller of the 2 is an Ulster that I carried from 1961 until 2001 . The other one is an old Taylors Eye Witness which is my favorite and best knife for Work even though it may be older than 120 years old .

And this knife just makes me feel good when I carry it by just feeling like nobody else is carrying one like it .

Please count me in .

Harry

Thanks waverave waverave
Even when it gives me trouble, for instance my a.c. compressor is giving up the ghost, I'll change the compressor myself but will have to let a shop handle the refrigerant. But honestly that's another thing I feel good about, from my Dad I learned to turn wrenches. I changed my own fuel pump, the week prior my bosses truck had to have the same thing. Even though I told her I could change it her husband elected to take it to a dealership. Their cost $1,300:eek: my cost, $300 and 3 hours on a Saturday. Feels good to know I saved myself a grand lol. And about that second chance, it's easier when you have people to help you with open minds and open hearts;).
Edit: Want to say thanks to all who have liked my earlier post, and offered kind words, it really means allot

Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville great idea to keep waverave waverave ('s) theme alive. Nice CJ7! I had 2 CJ5's a 78 and a 81 and a 94 YJ, sold the 78 to my best friend and we wheeled every chance we got, I rolled my YJ going to fast on a gravel road. I sure miss having a Jeep

Thank you! It's an 83. Bought it stock and been working on it a long time. It's been fun. I like your rig to my friend. Sold one very much like it a couple of years ago. I have no doubt you will eventually have another CJ.

Thank you very much. I certainly hope so, but I got to say I'd love to have another cj5, but I do have a soft spot for the ol'Wrongler square headlights and all. And thank you for the very generous gift, I'm humbled and astonished to no end.

If selected, my entry is for Misplaced Hillbilly Misplaced Hillbilly "All saints have a past ... and all sinners have a future". ~ me beginning "come to Jesus meetings" with wayward troops. Was once young and stupid, but saw the light before getting caught doing stupid stuff and hopped on the saint's trail. Most saw the light, a few didn't and ended up making little rocks out of big rocks for a few months before being handed the Big Chicken Dinner (BCD aka Bad Conduct Discharge). Happy to see you on the saint's trail.

Old Engineer Old Engineer Harry, love your Yellowstone pics, been too long since our last visit. Rocky Mountain National Park is closer, therefore it's my current favorite happy place. Listen to him bugle!

Leslie, great idea! So many wonderful photographs. I'd prefer not to enter this one, but I'd be glad to enjoy the photos folks put up. Here is one of my happy places, though it has been too long--bluebonnet fields in Texas. This is an old one, not long after we had received my two oldest sons (then foster sons, but not adopted sons):

Unbelievable pictures John !!!! I will not pick a favorite one of them either . I have only been close to a bull Elk , and have it bugle , one time in my life . It sent shivers up my spine . It seems like in the mountains in the fall that there is a great picture around every curve in the road .
Thank for the kind words about my Yellowstone pics my friend .

Thank you so much Chief Chief ! Very kind of you! I'll be 40 come March ( part of me is like  over that lol) while not old, it is old enough to NOT be young and dumb anymore;). Narrow is the path to righteousness, but easier when you have help along the way;) and help comes in many forms even a kind word of encouragement means allot:thumbsup: Beautiful photos I've never been farther west than the Oklahoma panhandle, as we say where I'm from " Good Lord willing, and the creek don't rise" I'm going to see Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon before I die.

OK I'll enter. Here are a Few places I like.

Hidden Lake in The Eagle Cap Wilderness, in Oregon's Wallowa Mountains, and my Dog Opie.

I had the camera set on a tripod, low to the ground so to pick up the little blue flowers in the grass. Focus was adjusted, F stop and shutter speed set. I was just ready to trip the shutter and he plopped down in the way. I came so close to scolding him, but then I did the smart thing and took his picture instead. It's the best photo I ever got of him in the 12 years we had together.

Here's another place that is special to me for many reasons. It's Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills NC. Not only have I fished there with friends and family for many years but my wife and I were married on the beach beside it at sunrise. Yes she likes fishing there as much as I do.
