Traditional Knife Photoshop Fun

I do enjoy a little amateur photoshopping of traditional knives every now and then. (I don't actually use Photoshop, but some free app I found for iPhone.)

Here's a curved Barlow based on GEC's #74 pattern.

The wood grain on this #25 Barlow reminded me of Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream.

Here's a bearhead Ebony Jack.

This one's probably my favorite: the TSA-friendly Double Beer Scout Knife, for extra leverage on those tough-to-pry caps. :D

Hey btb01 btb01 that's my ironwood #25 Barlow:D....I actually saved your photoshop work from the original thread and was going to use it for a Halloween post.:cool:

The drop point is way under utilized by GEC.

They make a big run of #71’s every year. ;) :D

The drop point doesn’t really work on just any pattern, either. That #78 mock-up, for example — where does the tip of the blade go when you close that knife? In order for the tip to be between the liners where it needs to be, the whole blade will practically be buried, nail nick and all. The drop point needs a pattern that curves upward at the end of the handle to conceal the blade tip and still give you access to the rest of the blade to open the knife.

GEC did a drop point #25 a while back, and I’ve never understood why it’s so popular/sought after. Just doesn’t look right to me, especially when it’s closed.

I agree with you about the 25s with the drop point, but I think the longer knives look pretty good with a drop point. The 78 might not work functionally, or it might require putting the nail nick toward the center of the blade more and lightening the pull accordingly. The handles that sweep up away from the tang lend themselves to the drop point though, and GEC has lots of those patterns.

In fact, waverave waverave could you try a 38 special with a drop point?

Whats not to love? :)
One of the most usable blade shapes there is and one of the most streamlined, when closed. imo
No problem using the profile on this straight pattern.

How about a GEC Un-x-ld Saddlehorn in stag, brass liners, wharn and clip blades, one ns bolster, spear shield and lanyard hole?

I knew it would be an unpopular opinion. ;) Something about that closed profile just looks odd to me. I love the #25 — one of my favorite GEC patterns — but I prefer ‘em with that stubby spearpoint. :D

Unpopular? Nope. That's why they make so many patterns. The spear point? You mean that fat ugly thing? hahaha!!

Indeed! Svelte and streamlined following the lines of the frame. Not sporting some deformed 'hump' like the Clip Brigade offers:eek: But then, they're closet Moderns with all their talk of pinch open..:D

Trying to keep track of projects that come up in different threads too...this is what I have planned when I get some more time:

1. GEC Un-x-ld Saddlehorn in stag, brass liners, wharn and clip blades, one ns bolster, spear shield and lanyard hole (for Pinemoon Pinemoon )
2. 38 Special in drop point (for JTB_5 JTB_5 )
3. Cheeseburger Acrylic #85 with bacon shield (because the world needs this)
4. Scrambled Egg Acrylic #85 with bacon shield (because I am curious)
5. Rotten Banana Bone Acrylic #85 with shields other than a banana (for all the naysayers)
