Photos Traditional knives and playing cards

French theme: Voltige deck of a Deep Parisian Blue color with Opinel models 2, 3, and 4. One of my favorite decks, it brings up some history of playing cards by naming the characters of King, Queen, and Jack cards. Quote on the center card is from poet Jules Renard, as long as I know. Jolipapa Jolipapa maybe you could give us a proper translation, for my french is 0. Please? :)

It says " the body is walking and the spirit is fluttering around like a bird".

Thank you! Very poetic, I like that. In my mind was another translation, something like "... spirit is waving like a flag/cloak", can't remember where I read it.

"Antique Playing Cards", replica of the French deck Cotta Transformation of year 1804/1805, dedicated to Joan of Arc (as long as I understand), featuring USA made Schrade 206 "Grand-Dad's Barlow". I just love those scrolled bolsters, bet the pivot pin won't ever be visible on those.

Slavic deck by Piatnik, reintroduces the old deck. I had similar one when I was a kid. Each suit represents a different nation: clubs - Greek, diamonds - Slav, spades - Mongol, hearts - seems like Byzantium. The knife is Buck 302 Solitaire from Chuk Buck signature series.

Well, Victorinox! My faithful Mountaineer, been with me during all business trips and helped me a lot in my daily routine. Truly a little big toolbox! And the cards are from Victorinox too, though saying "Made in EU" so not sure where it comes from exactly. Short deck of 36 cards.

Nice idea for thread! I started “collecting” decks of cards a couple years ago. Not with any real rhyme or reason — I’m not searching out vintage decks or anything like that — just things that I like. I have a couple existing photos, but I’ll have to take some more.

I scored this game for 2 bux at the op shop...Man Bites Dog...hilarious fun making up headlines...The other game I like is Cards Against Humanity..which I used to play with my Sons...they are word games and no gambling involved. As for normal cards...Euchre is the only one I find remotely fun to play....Think of me like the Doc character in this scene from League of Gentlemen
cheers.

Looks interesting and hilarious, thanks for sharing! I wonder how a Dealer judges the "quality" of a headline?

Euchre seems to be very regional in the U.S. I played a lot of Euchre when I was in college in Northern Michigan. Moved to Missouri and nobody had ever heard of it. Fun, fast game.
