Traditional knives and records

Looking at all of these band names reminds me of a story.....One of my friends was giving his daughter a hard time about a band called "Red Jumpsuit Apparatus" and how many band names in her childhood time didn't make much sense to him. She looked at him and without missing a beat said "Blue Oyster Cult"! She dropped the mic and walked off stage.....LOL. He looked at her and said well played my dear, well played!

She could just have said, "Three words, dad: 'Strawberry Alarm Clock'." :p

I think these colors match nicely.

Jethro Tull's 'This Was' was their first album, and it had Mick Abrahams on guitar. I got it in 1968, and think I still have it. I believe I saw them 9 or 10 times. Another favorite back then...

Their only title that made a hit in France was the Bourrée. Bourré (spells the same) means dead drunk.:p

The Bourrée is the name of the dance (and songs) from Auvergne, where is Thiers. The JT rendition is far more modern and adapted. Or was it JS Bach?
This is the original music. My mood is more toward JT/JSB's. I dig the old lady at 1' who crosses the field before the camera. Surely this was her youth' music!:D

Somebody already beat me to it, but obviously I know this album.

I didn't recognize the cover, but I recognized the man on the silver mountain.

I'll assume you're aware of Elf, but for those that aren't, Elf was Ronnie James Dio's band before he hooked up with Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple to form Rainbow (basically just Elf+Blackmore). Elf wasn't "metal" yet, not really. Just good, dirty, rock and roll. Some songs, however, hinted at Dio's future as a metal god.

If you look on youtube, you can find bootleg recordings of Elf live, including a full concert where they cover Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, and others, including a little band called Black Sabbath.

Some years later Tony Iommi got sick of Ozzy's drunken, drugged out antics and fired him from Black Sabbath. Who better than RJD to replace him?
I had not heard that Elf lp , really good stuff. Thanks!

It always amazed me that they could pull of having a rock band fronted by a flute player. They do put on a good show I regret that I only got to see them once.

Thanks for the hint, haven't heard his solo stuff so far.

I heard this band a few years ago in a John Peel radio show,
just a Guitar/singer and drums.

Good bluesy stuff, thanks.
More punk rock radio shows for ya. Just in case you aren't already hip to the Maximum Rock n Roll Radio Show. It has been going since the late 70's. They are working on their archive page but there are still a ton of shows to listen to or download.

I've come to realize that my musical knowledge is restricted to a relatively short time span, say 1965-1975. I haven't had a clue on any of the "puzzles" you folks have been posting!:(

Anyone recognize this one?

You aren't alone, Gary. The only mystery records I guessed correctly was your Zepplin. :p:D

How about a little old school hip hop and a Case Humpback Whittler.

Ok that’s 2 evenings in a row that I’ll have been walking around singing Holy Diver! My wife is not amused....
This thread is great fun, I need to put my cigar down and dig out the big box’o Records!

Usually it's "Rainbow in the Dark" I have in my head, but "Holy Diver" gets stuck a lot too.

I have a t-shirt with the album art printed on it. Most of my shirts are either music related, funny/ironic, or both. My "Don't Panic" shirt (with the HHGTTG guy I use as my avatar) gets compliments, as does my Blues Brothers shirt, but hardly a day goes by that I wear my Holy Diver shirt and I don't get at least one or 2 compliments just walking a block to Circle K or Wal-Mart.
