Let me guess, John: the knife you're carrying at the park is a shadow pattern, right?

First time I met Merlin was at The Californios up in Redbluff. This would have been 23-24 years ago as Nichole and I weren't married yet. He came into our booth and he had a couple of reatas and 4/5 mecates over his arm and a pocketful of braided hondos. He wanted to know what I would take in trade for Nichole. I think he was half serious. We did do some trading but not for Nichole, I kept her. I got several hondos for some wildrags. No, I didnโt know Merlin Rupp but a Google search turned up some pictures, he did have a good one. Thatโs quite a โstache in your picture on Dwight too. Maybe Iโll be in the running one day!
Ah yes my friend, there's a multifaceted answer to your question. Yes that pic above was at a show so folks do have their kinda good stuff on. In the Californio tradition the good stuff can be very much the good stuff! $$$$$$$. My reins cost more than my horse, literally and they don't have any silver on them. And I like this horse!ALL of the content in this post is so very cool, That 'stache is something else - whew! Our very good friend Mr. Dave Gentry has a mighty 'stache - it's pretty darned cool!
Every detail in the Horses gear, the gear that people are wearing etc - I'm loving looking at this- as a New Zealander- we just don't see this stuff, mind you we have our big Farms at "the back" but I'm guessing nothing like the bigger Countries like Australia and the States.
Ok.....I am going to do it.....
Because I don't know, maybe there might not be too many kicks coming in when I hit the dirt, so here goes.....
When you post your great photo's - everyone is wearing real tidy gear- the Chaps are always clean and mint etc, Im figuring that if you spend a couple of days on a horse working - they would be looking pretty broken in by then, so would this mean that you guys have different gear for different types of gatherings?
I hope I'm not offending anyone, but I always admire what I see, and the question pops up now and then- so I need to quieten down the noise in my head by knowing the answer.![]()
You bet my friend!Wow!!!
I really appreciate the effort and time that you took to post and explain with all those amazing Photo's, Thank you SO much for that - that cleared up a lot of questions.
The extremely awesome gear is a real treat to see David- Thank you very much as that was not only fascinating but enjoyable as well!![]()
