Traditional of the Month: Barlow

Two nights in the spring stretching chamber have made the pen blade of my 6207 easier to open. I gave the blades another mineral oil treatment and some open/close exercises, and back into time out it goes.

I think by tomorrow morning it will be just the way I like it, and its time at the spa will be complete. Thanks again the the tip.

This one again today:

Somehow, i don't think August will bring the end of "barlow month" for me.

Just a feeling. ;)

@ Pertinux...they do have a way of growing on you ;)

@ Nutoknives...That green Dog Head is Spectacular!

For a tight spring I (before any oiling) clamp the blade in a vise with copper jaws and, with heavy leather gloves, work the handle opening and closing a bunch of times. The idea being to wear the parts as well as fatigue the spring. THEN a good hot water rinse, blow out, and WD-40 rinse.

3 more days of Barlow month, don't get those soddies out yet.

I've been happily toting my barlow all month. It helps that it's my favorite EDC knife. It was with me for a twilight stroll to the lake

There it is, looking good P!

Thanks, and thanks again. As I've said, I didn't even know this one existed until the day you posted a picture of yours. It arrived late yesterday afternoon, and it's magnificent. I'll have more to show 'n tell in the GEC 25s thread. :)

I haven't posted much in this thread, but I have been lurking, and will miss it, as it winds down today - the last day of the month!!
To celebrate this wonderful and perennial favorite pattern, here are a couple of group shots. Long live the Barlow!!
Robesons - older except the bottom one, which is recent Queen made. I carried the second one down for a number of years. They have semi-sunk joints, and rounded bolsters, and are very pleasant to carry.

A big group showing off various bolster logos. The Henckles is very well made!

Finally what I call the quintessential Barlow, The Russell! This group has 4 old ones, and a modern repro at bottom, by Camillus.
The old ones, with sawcut bone, and hammered pins exemplify the simple beauty that a traditional old Barlow has. The logo-ed bolsters are the icing on the cake! Probably my favorite Barlows!!

waynorth, I am speechless!!! What an astounding collection
You are a very lucky man !

A lotta years behind that bunch, sitflyer. And money saved from not smokin'!
Glad you like 'em.

This arrived yesterday, but I was saving it for today to post here. My first custom slipjoint. This is a small barlow at roughly 3 1/4'' closed. and no more than 5 3/4'' open (guessing there). Spalted Maple Burl, Ats 34, Flat ground, 'Coined' stainless liners, Stainless pins and bolsters. R.L. Smith MS. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
Hear, Hear waynorth, long live the traditional barlow
