Been toting this lately.

I still have about a month until I can finally pick up my AG Russell barlow like this. Nice acorns too BTW!

I picked up the A.G. Russell Barlow a few weeks ago and have been carrying it every since. It's a great general purpose knife and the quality is very good.

Thanks jakemex. The AG Russell is a nice little knife. The knife is very substantial and packs a big wide blade. I have a couple of GEC barlows that while I love the compact size they are so damn hard to open that most days they get left behind.

This old Böker Tree Brand 493 arrived in today's mail. I know it is sharp, because it already bit me while I was cleaning/oiling it.

Almost all the 493s i have seen here including mine have that recurve in the blade is that original to the knife or is that the way they were sharpend?

I certainly don't have enough information to answer that. This is obviously a well-used knife, so it could be from sharpening. I simply do not know. Hopefully, others with more experience/knowledge with these knives can enlighten us.

As you can see from the pictures above, one of the bolster imprints is much lighter than the other, particularly on the K E R of BOKER, and the top right side of the tree.

I assume this is worn down from use, because that is right where my thumb grips the knife when the blade is open for cutting. Here are a couple closer shots, with the worn side in the first photo.

I have one exactly like this but new, the blade is straight there's no recurve anywhere, I guess is wear what you have seen.

The pulls on mine are very hard over 8, what about yours??
Mateo

It is one of the hardest pulls of all my knives, but it is lightening a bit as I have worked the blades this afternoon with mineral oil to clean the joints.

Thanks for the pictures of yours -- it is gorgeous! And they help answer the question about blade shape.

It almost looks like the same guy Sharpend our Bokers mine was so gunked up i could barley get it open washed it out oiled it it's getting better i will keep at it

I found this Sabre barlow amoong my grandpa's things. I touched up the edge in two minutes, shaved some hair from my arm. I think I recongnize the blue paint that's on this knife. It's the same blue color of the trim on the house I grew up in! :)

That's tremendous! :-)

sitflyer, see the tang stamp? I believe this is an anomaly for this pattern (and for this rendition of this pattern). It was almost a deal-breaker for me, but my thing for the Tree won out. I thought of you and your stated preference, however:

I love that tang stamp Pertinux! That Boker sure is a beauty:thumbup: Nice jigging on those scales as well...:)

Got this one yesterday:

The ATS-34 blades are nice and sharp. Pull is a bit stiffer compared to my GEC and Case Select, but not a nailbreaker. Only one complaint, the dye job peters out towards the top and bottom and the handles are white closest to the blades.
