Traditional of the Month: Barlow

I didn't have a barlow until yesterday. I like the idea of having a monthly knife, it has me trying a new knife that I may not have.
It's a Bear & Sons. Pretty nice knife, very heavy for it's size, with the thick liners and blades. It's much heavier and thicker than my Case stockman.

The top one is mine, the bottom was my Papaw's. He gave it to me many years ago. His had one of his mods he frequently did, to get the point more inline with the midline of the knife.

Do we have to pick just one, and carry it?

Oh man all those nice Barlows you got there. I need to step up my search to find a nice one.

Been carrying this one since today. It kinda grows on me. It`s cheap, crudely made yet very functional. It`s a Barlow alright.

edit: Damnit I just ordered a Boker Bonsai Barlow after I saw Sitflyers picture. What`s going on with me lately? 6 knives in less than a week...

There are some absolutely beautiful Barlows in this thread! Wish I had an oldie to play with!
This guy has been riding with me a good bit anyway, so it'll make July easy.

The bottom one which is stamped "BEXFIELD SHEFFIELD" will be the one for July.

Close call but scored a Barlow at the flea market today and was able to join in for day 1 :D It is a 2 blade Imperial with a sheepsfoot main blade and a secondary pen blade. Scales are black synthetic. It is in surprisingly good condition for an old Imperial and even has a half stop on the main blade. The snap is pretty decent since oiling it up. Not a bad 4 bucks worth and has already been used a few times since being sharpened.

Will edit to add pictures

Wow. Just happened to carry my GEC made Bulldog Brand EZ open Barlow today. I've got an Imperial Mark Twain in the cache as well. Not sure I can stick to one knife for the whole month but I'll try. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341195574.094335.jpg

My first knife was an Imperial shell handled Barlow that I cajoled out of my dad when I was 8. It's played many games of mumbly-peg and "throw it into the tree and make it stick" games :D I carried it daily until high school and it was retired to the tool box. After many years I finally got it back out, cleaned it up a bit and oiled it. Still needs a little work on the blades before I'll drop it back in my pocket, so in the interim I'll carry my Queen Dan Burke:

I also have this Taylor's Eye Witness single blade, which for the price is surprisingly nice (<$25 new):

I have a GEC on the way too...

The Barlow is one of my favorite patterns. Part of the reason is because the only knife I have that belonged to my Grandpa is a Barlow. It's one of those ubiquitous Imperials with the brown scales. The other part is just that I tend to lean slightly toward barehead patterns. (The stamped bolsters are pretty sweet, too.)

I'll probably break this Boker out at some point during the month. It's not quite this shiny anymore.;)

I've always loved those Boker Tree Brand Barlows. This month I'll be carrying this Dan Burke

I dont own a Barlow..in fact i dont think ive ever held one??...that second BOKER or the Forum knife is what id like to own....very classy!!........FES

Lots of great Barlows in here, Ed, those Bokers are terrific! I'm jealous of the BF Barlow owners too, a full-size Wharncliffe secondary and that stag looks great <drool>. ~P, your new ebony has me looking forward to mine in green bone, the GEC Tidoute's are so classy.

I've also discovered that at least some of the new "official" BSA knives in Scout Shops are made by Bear, including an interesting multicolored wood handle Barlow model with an Eagle shield. I think I'll mosey on down to ours this week and see what I can find :D

And there's always the Utica versions for affordable prices too...

I had quiet few barlows, here are what left

Great to hear. I ordered a RR Barlow and a Boker Bonsai Barlow, and will compare them. They should be here by the end of the week. Great thread so far, I really enjoy seeing all these Barlows.
