Recommendation? Traditionals and shorts?

I'm a big fan of belt pouches when in shorts as they free of up my pockets and keep my knives secure.
I've got a a Skinth on the way and am patiently awaiting its arrival since I've been unable to carry my favorite knives lately.

I think the solution is obvious...

I think its odd that so many people actually can keep a knife in their watch pocket at all.. i have never had any luck with that, whatever knife I try it with always works up and out of there within a few hours at most. Most of my work pants have a useably sized watch pocket, too.. must be my movement requirements, I dunno..
I like the short tether/lanyard idea, personally. You could give that an easy go without having to buy any new slips, just to test it out..
If you insist on wearing shorts while you ride (I have to point out how incredibly stupid that is, but it's your hide...) I would probably feel most secure with a tether. Especially if you have some 'softer' shorts on, you know how they like to relax pockets easily, so I would be most worried about those for anything that wasn't clipped or tied to me.
Hell my BDU pants will dump their pockets pretty easily in the (im)proper positions... I hate that for my scouty that's usually riding shotgun to whatever big clipped knife I have.

M McFeeli The OG! Very nice, I don't think I've ever seen an '87 in the flesh, and I've seen a lot of KLRs (I used to work at Happy Trails Products, I've probably replaced 300 Doohickeys)

Another good knife option is a lightweight shadow pattern like a Case Sodbuster Jr. I feel a lot more comfortable and confident carrying a lightweight knife in shorts. The fact that they're so cheap helps relieve some of those fears too. A $25 Case is not as painful to lose as a hard-to-find GEC :D

Happy Trails. Is he still in business? Still got my KLR, with some Happy Trails accessories, but it has been a while since I haunted the KLR forums. The KLR was just right for a couple of trips to Moab. I left it home in favor of a DR650 for a few trips to Copper Canyon.

I wonder if they have one in pink.. Haha. I think I'll just have experiment with a few different options to find what works best, for me at least. Who knows, maybe the above picture will be the answer to my quest!

B boy&hisdogs that's pretty rad. I bet that bike would handle a groundhog hole way better than my KLR. I know they caused me a ton of trouble on just about every dirt bike I rode.

And AndreLinoge AndreLinoge most of my watch pockets are pretty slim, which actually helps keep the knife nice and snug. I bet if I tried to wiggle upside down it'd fall out, though. Haha.

I always carry small knives in the watch pocket of my jeans, because I always wear jeans. But I either carry a really big knife (110, Opinel, Leatherman Wave, etc) or a very small knife like a 108OT. Sometimes both, but nothing in between. My 310 is right at 3" closed and it's the biggest knife that will lay flat in the bottom of my watch pocket. As long as the entire knife fits beneath the hem of the pocket, the hem actually holds it in. YMMV depending on what you wear though, this works for both my standard wrangler cowboy cuts and my "retro" slim fit.

And since we're on the subject of knives and cows... this is actually something we covered in my biology class. We've been talking about genetics and evolution lately. My knife choices can be described as co-dominance, like a roan cow that has white and red splotches instead of being an even shade of tan. You guys who carry a medium or large stockman exhibit incomplete dominance. This is akin to crossing red and white flowers to get pink. Both choices represent both traits in different ways; some carry one knife with both large and small blades, some carry two separate knives. You could even take this a step further and say that people who kinda like traditional knives but carry big TI flippers because they feel they need something tacticool would be, ironically, "carriers" in this model. :D
