TRAPPER TUESDAY

not sure if that was a factory error or a repair job.
The shields fall out often enough that I would guess an owner's repair.

I haven't carried and used this minitrapper like I thought I would. I probably should use and carry it more; it's a very nice knife.

Thought I'd give this thread a bump. I'm in a deer camp in the Ozarks, its steep, rough full of caves. Not a fancy deer camp, there are campers, but people that are into antique campers would sure be proud. I think mine is probably the newest camper, and it's a 1975 model, no electricity except from a generator and zero cell phone signal and zero internet. The only knife I've seen used in the 3 years I've been in the club is a Case trapper and that is for everything. I use a Buck 110. I thought I'd try out a Case Trapper on a couple of deer and it really did a good job. Completely worked up 2 deer from field to freezer with nothing but the trapper and a bone saw. It was what many consider the "lowly" stainless steel, and it was plenty sharp enough to process 2 deer, and rinsed it off in the creek. Really makes a good deer camp knife with the 2 blades.

When our friend KBA first showed this here on BF, I thought, "If I owned that I'd never need another." Right size, great material both steel and handle, fantastic color and a lock. So purposeful, so beautiful! Years later when it was offered to me I of course jumped at the opportunity.
Today, I realize I had been wrong. I've needed many knives since then  but... it's still an absolutely fantastic trapper to this old Michigan hunter.:thumbsup:

Sparrow, I still think that is the best looking knife GEC have ever made. Great photo, too!
Thanks Jeff. I agree with you about that particular 72. The red stag makes it shine in the looks department and it's usefulness is no slouch either. I'm glad KBA broke mine in, so I could find out that the outstanding grip plus it's slicing and piercing ability, makes it more than just another pretty face. :) I know how fortunate we both are to have such a fine piece of GEC cutlery.
I'd love to see your 72 again whenever you get a chance.

I didn't realize those are considered trappers. I have a Colonel Coon that was made by Queen that looks to be a very similar pattern to those GEC's , I think they called it a Mountain Man? It seems to be more similar to a 110 folding hunter than to what I think of as a trapper. But to further cloud things up, my Mountain Man is also very similar to a Case Backpocket (except its not a lockback) and I "think" the backpocket is considered a trapper variation. Not that it matters, I like those Gec's and I'm just interested in all things "trapper, and hunter, and the old coke bottle hunters and all the similarities.

A GEC 72 & 73

2 GEC 74's

A picture that I took in 2016 of what I considered a Trapper .
GEC Did Not call the 72 and 83's Trappers
Patterns then 72 , 72 ,73 , 73 , 74 , 83 , & 83

Another one that I consider a Trapper that is not called that by GEC is these 43's

Another GEC 73 that is a Liner Lock
