Trappers

Huh? Wuzzat? A R1173? And you casually throw that in there, like you forgot you had it? Now that's just plain mean!

I know, they get tucked away for a while and you tend to forget about them.
Nice Cripple Creek sunnyd.

You wanna laugh? You and Moon going back and forth just reminded me that I have an R1173 that I forgot about. It's a Remington/Camillus with great jigged bone scales made for the NKCA in the late 90's.

I actually forgot about it until I was laughing at the dialogue you two were having. So, I guess you're right, Navihawk. Sometimes they get tucked away for a while and you tend to forget about them. ;)

I don't have many to add..

A couple mini trappers. The bone one I got not to long ago in a trade from my friend Sunnyd.

An older Schrade Walden and an early Uncle Henry.

And an old Case full size with nice bone scales that I "Rescued" about 5 years ago. Someone had done the benchgrinder program on the blades but the rest of the knife deserved to be saved so off it went to Case for a couple new blades....

I know I've shown y'all at least two of these, but it's probably about time for a refresher. The Erickson is a copy that Ken very kindly made me of my father's favorite knife.

This is a full-size Case trapper that my father bought back in the eighties. I've never seen any other Case with glitter scales. Sorry for the partial picture, but it's very grey today.

And this is a mini-trapper that he bought at roughly the same time.

I gotta confess.....I like trappers too.

I've got some GEC Pioneers and a Scout.

I've also got a Case trapper in bonestag, and a Case dogleg trapper in cranberry with the large silver script.

And.....I've got one coming in the mail; Case trapper with red box elder burl scales.

Elliot I think the newer Rems were made by Camillus. don't quote me on that.
Hey 338375, when you sent thew Case in did they put retro blades on it or newer ones?
Moonwilson, offer up some trades in the trade section.I'm always looking for something different.

Yep, that was the case. That's why I put Remington/Camillus so nobody would think the NKCA was offering vintage Remingtons as their annual knives.

(I think Bear may have taken over in the wake of Camillus' demise. At least for the ones still made in the USA.)

Unforunately they are the newer blades.. I asked if there was any old stock layin around :D

The original blades were so far gone. I figured even though they weren't correct blades for the era, at least the knife could continue to be used for many more years.

It sure looks pleasing to the eye.Makes me think I should send in my 63032.....How much do they charge for a reblade?

It has been a few years now but when I sent it in it was $10.00 per blade.
They really did a nice job on it, I wish I would have taken a before picture of it.

Frank,
I also just got one. Very nice indeed.

Mine has some blade play. Does anyone else have this problem?

Mine has very little, no more than any other traditional I have ever owned. It is not noticeable unless I specifically grab the blade and try to make it wiggle back and forth.

Good idea, I think I'll do that. ;) I would PM you, but it looks like you're still a basic member.

I did a little research on the knife in question, and figured out what it really is. It looks like it may be one of the SMKW R1178s- the "Silver Bullet" knife from 1991. Silly me- I am still a "beginning collector". I thought it was a vintage Remington R1173. Looks like I can't read very well. I was wondering- "Gee, that packaging looks pretty spiffy for a knife that old. That's interesting that they were doing 'collectible' runs that long ago." I was thinking that was a $7000 knife- hence my surprise at Navihawk's casual posting. :o I'm such a newb.

Sheesh. That knife's awesome anyway. I want one! The old Remington Bullet trappers are my "grail" knives. Their designs are just so perfect.

If you click on Navihawk's name in the top left of his post, one of the options is to send him a PM, the other an email. (But now that we've resolved that let's please take any private communications to either PM or email.)
