Trappers

pretty bad photo, but here is an old german trapper that was given to me kindly. the clip blade is just about zero ground (no appreciable bevel) and the spey had an ever so slightly thicker edge. nice crisp half stops and smooth worn bone.

A Mini Trapper I picked up today at a gun show.

Blade says "1879 BRADFORD CENTENNIAL 1979".

Actually, my girlfriend spotted it first. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it and it just had to come home with me. :D

I also just got one. Very nice indeed.

Mine has some blade play. Does anyone else have this problem?

I recently purchased two of the CS trappers. A two blade and a single blade.
My single blade did have a bit of play, which surprised me because this is not a problem I've had with Canal Street. Queen, yes but not CS. Anyways I promptly packed it up and returned it to the factory. I've not had to deal with their customer service before but have not heard a bad word about it. Everything else about the knife I really liked.

Did you get it back fixed?
What did they do to fix it?

Thanks

I have not gotten it back yet. (I just sent it last week)

Not sure how they tighten it up, but I know it can be done. I sent a Mt Man trapper back to Queen for the same problem and it came back nice and tight. My guess is the same will happen with CS.

I asked Canal how would they repair the knife.
They said the would "Re-cutler" the knife

Does anyone know what "Re-cutler" means?

Happy Turkey Day All!!! I have an Amherst Cutlery Trapper I won here on the boards that is just an Outstanding little pocket knife! I also have a GEC (Tidioute) with micarta scales and 1095 blades I purchased while up north... I am very fond of both and both get alot of pocket time!

This thread brings back memories.:p For years I carried a full size Trapper but the last few years I find myself down sizing. But when needed there's no pattern that compares to the big `ol handfull of loooong blades that a Trapper carries IMO. :D
Trappers in general & especially the S&M Swaybelly Trapper remind me of younger days sittin up most of the night listening to the coon dogs back home in Tenneesse. I bought 2 of the File & Wire Swaybellies, 1 for the collection & 1 to use. At 4" it's a little large but when a robust knife is needed it sure fits the bill. I love the feel of this pattern in hand & the ATS-34 steel is a great choice. Both of these knives have good stiff springs & crisp half stops.
I also posted pix's of the 5th Annual Reproduction Series Swaybelly Trapper in Stag just cause it's soooo purdy!

I've also grown quite fond of another F&W knife the deluxe English Jack, which to my mind is essentially a trapper with the blade order reversed. this baby is 4 1/2" closed with 3 3/4" blades. Once again the steel sure "boosts" this knife IMO.
Thanks for starting this thread I've enjoyed seeing all these knives.

Three of my favorite trappers. An Uncle Henry from early 70's with high-carbon blades, a more recent Tennessee River Trapper, and my newest, a JOHN PRIMBLE half trapper made for Belknap HDW

I really like the first one in stag there Dave. That would have been my user.

It was a steel thing for me navihawk. In `95 when the Stag was relesed, Queen was still useing 440A (now all the Annual Reproduction Series's are 420HC) The File & Wire Swaybelly is ATS-34 which I like better in the edge retention department. :D

Great Thread:thumbup:

Here's a saddlehorn trapper by Mr. Ruple. This is not mine and the pic is from Guns & Knives. I love the big belly spey blade on trappers!
