Traveling with your knife..or not.

I once made the mistake of mentioning that I had a knife with me; Security showed up REAL quick to collect it!
(I did get it back)
Now: I keep my mouth shut...
Could you bring him a knife? (Not a great one...); or would he be subject to serious consequences if they caught him
The problem is two fold. In the nursing home you have “wandering clients”, so it couldn’t be on his table.
Weekly, it falls out of his pocket and disappears in his recliner. He‘s short term, so…
On flying..you young guys have no clue how many crazy rules came from 9-11. Nail clippers…really?
OK! This is a hyjack! Fly this plane to Cuba or I’ll give you a hangnail you won’t believe!!😳

About 15 years ago, my wife & I visited the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico. As we were about to go in the door, the security guy noticed the clip of my knife on my right pocket. "Sir! You'll have to leave your knife in your vehicle." As I was turning around, I said to my wife, loud enough for him to hear, "He'd have a real hissy fit if he knew I had this Glock." I got wanded going back in.:)

Ceramic knife in your prison wallet? I'll show myself out ....

I haven't been on a plane in ... 20+ years? Family is all close and our vacations are within a few hours drive so I can't relate to TSA issues.

Rather than buy a POS knife, I'd try to buy a decent knife and pay a few $ to ship it home.

Probably not worth it. my brother lost a knife because he had forgotten to take it out of his bookbag when we were flying overseas once.

There should be a knife store on the way out of every airport. Then a donation drop box for local Boy/Girl Scouts on the way back in.

I don’t travel often, but leave my knives at home. I don’t recall ever buying one once I was there either.

The last airb&b we stayed in had something in the kitchen drawer I could carry.
There used to be knife stores in Airports. Back during Viet Nam you could buy all kinds of combat knives in SeaTac below Seattle and I bought my first Swiss Army in the airport in Chicago.

I fly every week mostly domestic and some international. Always have a small Sebenza in checked luggage, 5 years no issues. It’s $30 to check a bag which would be a lot cheaper than the suggested buying a knife and shipping home.

Although that’s a great excuse to buy a new knife

I wouldn't travel with a knife. It sucks but I am not checking in luggage then no knife. With check-in luggage i will bring a knife that if TSA misplaces it then I am not overly upset. My Mnandi stays home!

Another thing, different places, different rules. You might cross a county line and become illegal walking around.
I get it though. At my daughter’s wedding, my wife whispered, a knife clip on a tux. isn’t appropriate. All I could say was, you’re right a sword would be more fitting. Glare, knife went in car.

FWIW, piggy backing off the "utility knife", if you're not trying to spend much, lowes and home depot usually carry basic Kershaw clam pack knives as well, along with cheap knives branded either Milwaukee or DeWalt, not the worst options in a pinch. There's also a Sportsman's Warwhouse in Chandler, and a BassPro in Mesa, with more options...

Or.... there are a couple intriguing knife/cutlery stores in Phoenix, AND Medford is headquartered there, maybe try and add a tour to your itinerary if that's even a thing, (I honestly don't know)...

The Titanium handled Boker Urban Trapper is so light and thin, I have found that it wears perfectly in the inner pocket of suit jackets, causing no deformation or sag whatsoever. Not much different then a pen. It has become my go to dress up fancy knife.

My father in law was packing at Ms. Wild Willie's step sister's wedding just a couple of weeks back. I found the thought of carrying in a tux hilarious.

I am going straight to Big 5 when I land in PHX. Prolly get a kershaw or something in the $25-50 range. I have a coupon for there too.

I was flying out of Reno once and forgot I had my SOG keyknife on my keychain. They took it. TSA missed it flying out :o

Haha I was gifted a knife for my wedding so made sure to have it in my tuxedo pocket
That's the most reasonable thing to do.

Her dad is a retired CO, a current local cop, and has had his FFL since the 80s, so I don't feel bad for not carrying when he's around. If only I could improve his taste in knives I'd consider my life a success.

⬆️That’s funny! Coincidence…at my daughters, she’s a cop, he’s a cop (she’s his boss🙃)most of the wedding party are cops. Most of the guests were cops, several judges the DA, police commissioner, several PA Troopers, and 4 Army buddies from 2 tours. I was pretty safe.987363B0-D1BC-4367-B26D-0FDF138BF1E5.jpeg

Oh, the memories of this type of situation...
...Was on a business trip, and forgot I'd stuck a really nice Zero Tolerance under the flap of my computer bag, which I see as I prepare to shoot my laptop through x-ray...So I tell TSA, let me out and I'll drop it somewhere. United ticketing took it and stashed it for me until my wife could swing by and pick it up. The caveat was that while in the screening line I'd not entered formal screening yet. It all worked out as planned, and I thanked United ticketing for being so helpful. TSA was helpful too.

Another worse example was arriving in the Caracus Venezula airport for a liveaboard dive vacation - and as I told my wife later, why did we not heed the US State Depart travel advisory of NOT going to VZ? Usually, I get my big folder out of checked bagage before looking for ground transport. I did not. Big mistake. We had heard about bandit taxis so we made sure to snag one which was white and had numerals on the light dome, and igorned the big black Suburbans that looked like narco transports. Well, we were forgiven for it was 2am, and the bandit taxis were the ones with numbers. So we were kidnapped I'd call it and taken for a ride into Carracus, where we were separated from 600$ and dumped next to a hotel with our dive gear intact. Later I wondered what if I'd had that knife and the consequences down there of protecting oneself....

But ever since, I made sure that packed knives are brought out as soon as luggage is off the conveyor belt.

I neglected to mention that we were later informed by hotel staff that these bandidos were often off-duty cops or military - didn't look military but one never knows. And as I verbally sparred with them I heard that sound that seemed like a pistol bumped into some metal in the car. The hotel folks told us about their own relatives who'd been shot in similar circumstances. Was not uncommon. So the knife? Use it or not? One never knows. I'm accustomed to physical rumbles in my work but not the danger/death types so ....

Still having the knife unpacked and not in the trunk would have been a nice option.
