Every airport should have an area set aside for boarding passengers to sell/swap knives etc with arriving passengers !There should be a knife store on the way out of every airport. Then a donation drop box for local Boy/Girl Scouts on the way back in.
I don’t travel often, but leave my knives at home. I don’t recall ever buying one once I was there either.
The last airb&b we stayed in had something in the kitchen drawer I could carry.
You were very lucky...This past weekend I was visiting a good friend just outside of Dallas. I only took my Smock and was in my checked bag flying out. On my return flight home, I had put the knife inside a jacket pocket back in the checked bag. With some locally purchased food products the bag was heavier, so I removed the jacket (forgetting the Smock) along with a few other items to lighten the checked bag without getting hit with a $69 charge. Somehow I made it through TSA with the Smock in my inner chest pocket, figured this out once I was waiting at my gate to baord. There was a lot of stuff to sort though with my carry on messenger bag. But still.. I would have figured it would have been an automatic "disqualification". Not sure if the guy looking at the X-Ray just missed it, didn't recognize it, or if it was because I was in TX.
Glad to still have it....
Wow. TSA found a tiny Case mini copperhead in a backpack that was in a pair of shorts. I hadn't worn those shorts in a year, thought I had lost that knife. This past weekend I was visiting a good friend just outside of Dallas. I only took my Smock and was in my checked bag flying out. thought I had lost that knife.
Obviously a poorly trained sub-contractor...The TSA did something productive and useful? I thought that was against policy.
If you can carry a sidearm: you probably can do without a knife...Had to drive over to New Mexico last month. Checked the laws beforehand. Turns out I could/did carry a concealed handgun with TX license but could not carry an automatic knife under any conditions…….that would have been a misdemeanor.
YES!!! And then mail it home!By plane, absolutely not. If I actually need one, I can buy one at my destination.
Trimming your nails is gonna be loud…If you can carry a sidearm: you probably can do without a knife...

Buy A good one n then mail it home!
Classic problem and it bothers me, too. I like the “buy a new knife there and ship it home” option.
When I fly, I buy a decent knife to use while ther and then gift it to family or friend when I leave . Makes it memorable for me and them.
