Tree Chopping Challenge **TREE DOWN!!!**

Great pics of the tree. Looks like progress is being made, but there's obviously quite a bit of chopping still in your future. What does the Skyline look like at this point? How's the edge holding up?

I think that when you are done,,Get a picture of yourself standing next to the stump hold the knife,,,Maybe send Kershaw a copy,,,maybe they could put it on the website...Its a huge feat,,,I look forward to your progress
That's a good idea!
Don't get Carpal Tunnel now.....
It might be to late.... ;)
Tree- "What the F are you doing? That tickles!"
Haha, that's probably what it is thinking.

It's still in pretty good shape. A little bit of chipping at the tip, but it's barely noticeable. There's also some rolled edges, but that's a little bit more normal, especially when you're chopping down a tree. The first half of the blade is still paper cutting sharp, but that's because it's kind of hard to chop with that portion if the blade.

One thing I would recommend to Kershaw is to make their lanyard holes bigger. I can't even fit a lanyard through. I spent about an hour trying and I still couldn't get it. I gave up after that.

Seeing that beautiful tree being torn up like that makes me a little sad. However, I still want to see you eventually complete this utterly absurd task, so I'm conflicted.

All I know is that you definitely cannot stop now.

Ok guys, sorry for not posting here in awhile with any updates. I've got some good news and I've got some bad news.

The good news first: I've been making a lot of progress and I think I might even be able to get this thing on the ground before the next Monday, if I'm lucky. I'm still a ways away, but I'm feeling really confident and good about it.

The bad news: I won't be able to do any more videos or pictures, at least until the tree's down. My moms got school and my brothers both have sports and my sister has girl scouts. There's just not any light when my mom gets home. I'm really sorry and I wish I could do something, but I can't. I know it's one of the rules, but I'm hoping that you can trust me stebolicious. I won't do anything to the tree that involves anything but the Skyline.

i wanted to see the tree fall,...My opinion in to postpone you great efforts until you can video,,,I would not hold anything against you if you needed some time to get that in order,,since if you did,,that three is not going to go anywhere..LOL...Best of luck with you task whatever you choose to do...

Great progress man! I can see it now, 60 years go by, your in a [hovering] rocking chair whittling away at a random twig and some young kid tells you they've got a new laser knife that took down a tree in their yard with one swipe. You just shake your head at the little wuss and say "Hey, let me tell you a story."

Yea I would wait too. Or at least try to contact steb and see what he says. No point in nullifying your agreement if you are that confident it will fall, whether it is next Monday or Wednesday for that matter. Oh and great work so far. Have to say this is impressive, not only your progress but the performance of the fixed skyline. I'm starting to really consider buying one now just to beat the snot out of.

Yeah I could probably wait a little bit and see if I can get some video or pictures.

Jim, that's an awesome story. That could wouldn't know what hit him.

Get a Fixed Skyline. It definitely takes a beating and keeps going. I love it!

Good job man, lots of people your age have never made it off the couch. This experience will help you later in life when you come across a challenge that seems too tough.
If you can't get a sharpener I would get some 400 grit sandpaper and put it on a piece of leather or a book and strop the edge into shape at least every session. A 40 degree inclusive (20 degrees per side) should do it. That will be nice and sturdy and have less of a tendency to roll the edge.

Thanks for subscribing. Another member on here is graciously sending me a Sharpmaker to use. I should be ok, but thanks for the tip.

Sorry to say it, but the tree looks like a pecan to me. In otherwords, its a hardwood. Like another member said, a lanyard and some improved technique could go a long ways to make your job a lot easier.

What kind of lanyard were you trying to put on your knife? I was thinking you could make a lanyard out of some para cord. Make a nice thick lanyard so you have something really grab hold of.

If you don't have any para cord laying around, send me your address and I'll drop some in mail to you.

Oh, and super glue actually could be one of the best things for your cut. I'm in the restaurant business, and over half the time I send someone to the ER with a cut they come back with it glued together. It burns like mad, but holds way better than a bandaid. If superglue won't hold it, you need stitches.

And if it continues to open up it will take way longer to heal and could leave a large scar. I am in HVAC trade and cuts are just part of the game. Monday morning I took 3/4 of the finger print off my middle finger fighting with a elbow it went to bone and bled more than I ever thought possible I should have gotten stitches but I didn't want that on my bosses plate so I fought with bandaids for an day and half and finally glued it up and I tell u what its healing really really fast!

Yea I second the super glue to the cut. Probably saved my finger from a nasty scar thanks to super glue.

Guys, I have come to a decision, I'm going to chop the rest of the tree down with a hatchet. This challenge has taken' a lot longer than I thought and I just want to get it over with. I don't really have any time because of school and baseballs starting up again. I hope you guys enjoyed the videos and the pictures and that you had fun, because I know I did. This will go down as one of the best experiences that I've had because of BladeForums. When it's time for the tree to fall, I'll get some video of it. Thanks for all of the good luck and all of the tips.
