Trevor Ablett RIP

Sorry to hear of his passing Jack, I'll always remember the picture of you and Duncan the day you two met him:thumbup:
Paul Matey, I WISH I did meet Trevor - Jack and I met Stan Shaw, but its actually gutting to hear that one of the Masters has gone, those tough tough Sheffield Boys know/ knew some very very tough times - to get to an old age is remarkable, to get to an old age and be known around the World is to me Legendary!!!
I am really saddened although we knew that Trevor was not well - the blow doesnt soften when it finds home.
I dont own a T.A Knife - although I have in the past, but I am darned sure I will again and when I do I am going to use that knife solidly.
Another Little Mester ( Master Cutler ) has left us :(

Thank you Jack for letting us know and I am so sorry to hear the news and what I take from this news as quite a loss for you - I'm sorry for that my friend.

It is a very sad time for his family and close friends.

However, he leaves behind him a long constructive life and a legacy of many, many working-knives as proof of his talent, a fine homage in itself. I was reading an article about him the other day where he stated his ethos as regards knife-making. Not for him the use of costly materials such as silver, ivory or jewels - who can use them he asked? Indeed. His philosophy was to make simple, functional knives that will be used and last. So they will. That, I'm sure, would please him. Talent never dies.

Thanks for all your very kind words gentlemen. His death is a great loss, but no more personal to me than to the rest of us.

I had a very pleasant visit with Stan Shaw yesterday, who is still producing the most exquisite work at 89 (he was working on a Folding Bowie yesterday). Of course we talked about Trevor, and that neither of them would have been expected to reach their grand old age, as cutlers, in the past. Stan was the youngest of nine children, and being a sick and weakly child, it was not expected he would live long, but he has in fact outlived all his brothers and sisters.

As has been said, Trevor lives on, as all old cutlers do, in the knives he made, which will be loved and used for many years to come.

Very sorry to hear, my condolences to his family and friends.

Thanks for those videos stezann

My sincere condolences to Mr. Ablett's family and friends.

Trevor's Obituary from the Sheffield newspaper:

Ablett Trevor William Passed away at home on 14th October 2015 aged 73.
Much loved husband of Mavis, loving dad of Philip, Paul and Lisa, father in law to Joanne and Dave, devoted grandad to Hayley, Calum, Lucy, Piper, Alyssa, Sophie and Megan.

Always a smile instead of a frown,
Always to hand when one was down,
Always true, faithful and kind,
Wonderful memories left behind.

I dare say that a fuller obituary will be published in due course.

Always sad to hear of a loss of someone who enriched so many lives, many of whom never knew who he was. My prayers and condolences to you and his family.

Another of Sheffield's little Mesters gone. Wish I had met him. My condolences to the family.

He may be gone but his knives will live forever.

I just popped in for a look see and read this sad news...thanks for posting this up for us Jack. May he be making pocketknives for the angels in heaven...

Duane, my hope is that those who create will continue to honor the Creator by creating.

Jack, I'm so story for the loss but grateful for an end of any suffering.

Thanks for all the kind comments folks

I left a few words for the family on behalf of all of us on the online condolences book, which is actually part of the local Sheffield newspaper website:

Sincere Condolences

I only heard of Trevor's passing yesterday, but was aware that he had been seriously ill. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Trevor was very highly thought of by collectors of traditional pocket-knives, both here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/773-Traditional-Folders-and-Fixed-Blades and elsewhere.

With kind regards

Jack Black

Unfortunately, the administrator of the site e-mailed to say that the link was being removed because it didn't work (which isn't the case), and then that the content was considered "inappropriate". I just hope that Trevor's family eventually read the kind and thoughtful comments people have left here.

Edit 10-26-15: A mangled version of the message above has now been posted to the site.
