Not Good. Ordered a lg. reg. Sebenza Monday morning. No confirmation email/phone call as of Tuesday, nor an e-invoice or record stating how much the final price with tax and shipping will be. So I email to see if all is kosher. Fine, it'll be on my doorstep by noon Thursday. Guess what? It's 2:00 p.m. and nothing. Boo-hoo, have some patience, right? I shouldn't have to exercise patience when I spend $500+ on a knife... especially when their website claims orders to friggin' Asia and Europe are delivered in 2-3 days. I'm ~5 bloody hours away from their office! A fellow BF'er in Ontario ordered the day after me and had his Seb. in hand yesterday!

I am interested to read any other negative experiences with True North Knives.

I think I've bought 4 knives from Neil, shipping has always been perfect. You need to relax. :o

Sorry to rain on your parade but Niel Ostroff and TNK is/are one of the best dealers in the business. You should have no worries. He is shipping in Canada so your not even crossing a border so relax you will have your sebbie soon.

I've ordered a few knives (and I'm sure I'll probably order a few more :D) from Neil/TNK and never had a problem.

So Neil's in charge of the Canadian postal system as well as TNK?

thombrogan,
I just received a terse email from him saying it still hasn't been sent out. So, no, he isn't in charge of the Canadian postal system. What he is, or should be, in charge of is honouring his claims and curteously corresponding in a timely manner with polite, hard-working customers (i.e. the people who give him money) when any aspect of the agreed upon terms of sale will not be met. Reasonable, no?

My posted experience with TNK should not be construed as libel, as it clearly is not. It is simply an accurate account of a single business transaction with them that I perceive to be negative. From what I've read and continue to read about Neil/TNK, it would seem that my experience is an aberration. Fine. I accept that, and wish Neil and his customers nothing but continued success and satisfaction.

Why do you want to read "other negative experiences"?
If there are any they will be few and far between. Neil and his True North operation is a class act as far as I am concerned.

I am sure if you are patient all will go well. I'd be willing to wait for such a knife.......it also might help to know that you are one of VERY few....:)

Neil is one if the best guys out there.

He has only just come back from a knife show in Toronto.

You WILL get your knife.

My mistaken assumption. Sorry.

No worries. You could not have known. :)

To clarify, I did not intend to whip up a froth of 'trashtalk' against TKN. My intention was to discover if I was receiving the same level of service as most of his other customers. And through everyone's glowing praise here of Neil, and some similar emails, my question was answered--I am not receiving the same level of service. That is a fact backed up by evidence: the longer than average--and more importantly, stated--delivery time, no communication/explanation regarding said delay, and what I perceived to be (while certainly not rude) far from friendly answers to my polite questions. I will admitt to getting a little excited in my initial post, and that it was not the best way to proceed. But $525 is a significant amount of money, for most people, and for that all I expect is to be treated like most people. Simple.

p.s. I am actually one of the most easy-going, undemanding, tolerant people out there. That this gets my hackles up says something to the validity of my concerns regarding this issue... at least to me. I very much dislike tension, conflict and confrontation, so nothing would make me happier than to change my tune and go about waiting for my Sebbie in peace. Let's remember, it's all about the knives!:)

It was a bump in the road. Very soon now you will have new sebenza in your pocket and big honkin' grin on your face. :D You are a lucky dog.

Neil hates Karl Malden:D

But that does not change the fact that he is one of the very best.

I also understand why Neil was "terse", did you call him on the phone to discuss the delay instead of coming here first?

GB&U is the last resort....................

Yes, I did contact him first. And that is much of my point here, that I should not have had to contact him.

You are correct, that doesn't change the fact that he is one of the very best, for most people. It's just that I cannot personally endorse that statement based on my experience with him. Why do people insist on making generalizations? I shared my experiences with the man. That is all I did. Please read the lines, not between them. :) The End.

Let me also add my experiences with True North. I have dealt with dozens of on line retailers and True North is one of if not the best ones I have dealt with. Your comments are way out of line.

Hi,

Neil is a person, he had a busy work weekend(not normal, fwiw), he is pretty much a one-person business, and if you are aggressive with him, he is quite defensive, aptly so.

Give him a chance, he runs his business with customer service in mind, and does a very good job.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
