Truthfully, has anyone on here ever had a cold steel knife fail???

Had/have a few. Lawman and Recon 1 (old tanto :D)are my favs, and see the most carry.

Only one I broke was a Trailhawk.

Throwin' it into a maple trunk. Lots. One day it got a crack from the bottom towards the top, about an 1". Called CS, had a new hawk in 4 days. No problems since then. Still throwin' too.

Failed to read the instructions on closing the kudu, and cut the hell out of my finger. You do have to be smarter than the knife. Other than that, only problem has been the pocket clip breaking on a sharkie.

Well, at least now your finger is hell-free. :D

Sure.
My Master Tanto has failed to break during heavy use over many years.
My Voyager fails to not cut whatever I want to with ease.
My Mini Tuff fails to freak people out.

Yep, plenty of failures all around.;)

Yes I have the following problems:
- trailmaster: after serious chopping the handguard becomes loose
- Kukri: the SK-5 steel will chip relatively easy
- Recon-1: when I used it after it was covered in mud the lock would not close anymore.

Haven't owned any of their knives, but the handle on my Special Forces shovel broke. However, their customer service was very good, as they sent me a replacement handle very promptly and included some tootsie-pops with it.

Had some sort of coldsteel throwinf knife. My brother and I used and abused it like no one would believe and it never broke. We threw it in the lake accidentally and lost it. Bought another and now I have no idea where it is.

I wouldnt buy a CS knife for serious use (my preference), but for a fun knife it worked great.

It's no secret that I am a big CS fan. However I do have to put it out there that all knives made by reputable manufacturers really will not fail under any sort of rational use, and many of them will not fail under a lot of irrational use.

CS products sure are fun and inexpensive though

I agree. The videos kind of turn me off sometimes, but I don't see other manufacturers beating the hell out of their knives online. Or showing folder weight hang strength. I have a C.S. machete, hawks, a Rajah 2 and have an XL Voyager coming in. They are inexpensive so I use them harder than higher end units, because if I bugger one up I'm not out much. But I've never had a failure. Which means that I probably get more sheer blade use enjoyment from these inexpensive\tough products per dollar.

1) carbon v twistmaster --chipped the blade. the blade still gets silly sharp on this knife

2) carbon v laredo bowie -- guard separated from handle (loose & wiggly). no blade damage

3) carbon v gurka kukri -- absolutely beat the hell of this. used in a lot of construction & demo jobs-hitting spine with estwing hammer etc... no major damage at all--still gets shaving sharp

these are old tools and would have to say they never 'failed'. have no idea about the quality any newer CS stuff

I bought a Triple Action folder in 2000. I opened it almost like a balisong. It lasted 2 months before the screws fell out.

A few years back, I had a Voyager XL that I used to clear branches growing into my trail. Nothing too hard, mostly just wrist snapping to clear pencil-sized branches. I must have caught the grain wrong on one, because the Voyager ended up with a fold out about the size of half a penny. I tried to hammer it flat, but the whole section broke out.

The Voyager had a wide blade with a thin edge, and lots of torque was possible because of the long handle. Too much for the AUS-8.

I snapped the tip off of a few clip point voyagers, but I was doing things with them that I wasn't supposed to. But I am impressed with them, especially for the price.

Yeah , I broke the blade (at the pivot) of my recon 1 tanto

It's nice that you have a strong lock like the tri-ad , but after all being said , the lock can only be as strong as the other main components of the knife , and well , the blade is obviously one of them

I was thinking to send the blade back to cold steel for a warranty , but their warranty is farce
Calling your knives the "worlds strongest sharpest knives" and showing all these test videos , but the knives have only 1 year warranty ? sorry but this is some really weak stuff right there

What were you doing with that knife anyway?

I used that sucker hard , you can probably say i abused it too

That being said , was it anything worse then what cold steel are doing in their videos ? the answer will be no
It wasn't anything worse then what i did to my ZT 200 either , and that blade is still in one piece and still working hard
Liner is pretty screwed up for sure , but the fact is that this sucker still working unlike the cold steel recon 1 which ended up in the trash can

The liner lock is definitely weaker then the tri-ad , but the actual knife is far stronger , and whenever it will break , unlike the cold steel , well there is actually a warranty , a very good one

cold steel knives are pretty nice so does the tri-ad lock , but it does seems like they are being extremely overrated in this forum

Well then you have nobody to blame but yourself. And BTW, that's no answer....

Blame for what ? i didn't blame no one , i just shared my experience and my opinion regarding cold steel
The question was "has anyone on here ever had a cold steel knife fail???" , and that's what I answered , as simple as that

And BTW , I don't know what "answer" are you looking for , but either way , I don't owe you any answers my friend , so be gone
