Trying to find a cheap USA made edc

You can find something on usamadeblade.com.

I'll second this. Good folks to do business with.

I'll also second looking at the Buck line. They still have a few foreign made knives (they are moving ALL production back to the USA) but the vast majority of their knives are made in Post Falls, Idaho. Great selection of reasonably priced knives.

Between these two suggestions, you should be able to find something you like and that also meets your budget.

Best of luck! :)

spend some time looking over the Kershaw line. Much of their production is U.S. and they do enough volume to get pretty good economies of scale. Very popular brand.

What blade styles do you prefer? What will you be using it mainly for? How big are your hands?

The Buck Vantage line are for the most part well made and in the USA. The cheapest line is the "Select", followed by the "Avid" and "Pro". You can get the "Select Large" which has a 3 1/4" blade for a hair under $30.

I agree, get the vantage select. Buck deserves much more praise than they get, not only do they make excellent knives all around but nobody else makes as good or as many budget friendly usa knives as they do. Also I think the way they do their 420hc is better than any aus8 or 8cr13mov.

The Buck (and Leatherman) 420HC is a really good steel thanks to the heat treatment.

It's better than any current 8Cr models, and on par with Cold Steel's AUS8, and on a knife that you can pick up for under $30 that's pretty good.

http://www2.knifecenter.com/ Check out this link if you haven't already...It will at least give you an idea whats around.....you can always look for better deal elsewhere. I own a few cheaper Kershaws and they held up just fine...If you go to the site, look for where it says MORE then click on American made items !!!!

Just bought a buck vantage for $35. You can also get a bantam for $20, but the vantage is nicer. There new spitfire is nice but i prefer the vantage. After that id check kershawguy.

The Vantage knives are nice. You might consider saving up for a month to add 25 dollars to your budget and getting the Vantage pro with s30v steel with an excellent heat treatment (Paul Bos). Very good ergonomics. Pivot may require some adjustment, but a great value.

Yes check out the Buck lineup. Bantams, 110s, and Spitfires, are all US made and economically priced. Between one of those you should find a size/weight you would like. The Kershaw Leek is also a nice knife, but usually priced a bit more.

I'll second the Zing Tanto from Kershawguy if you're wanting a smaller EDC. Thing's a freaking tactical scalpel!

I've had terrible luck with the Buck Vantage line, as has everyone I know in real life that has used theirs for real work. If you search around here, you can find a laundry list of bad experiences and complaints about them.

The Skykine is a good basic EDC for sure. Kershawguy has blems for $29, but if you search around you can find new non blems for just a couple dollars more that have a warranty.

i love my buck vantage for light to medium work (opening packages, cutting heavyduty zip ties at work, wood carving ect). its held up very well after almost a year and still going strong. takes a crazy wicked edge too.

I don't think I've heard that Buck's 420 is better than 8cr13.. Interesting. How thick is the butt on the Vantage knives, it looks really fat, and I'm not a fan of deep carry clips. I do love flippers and the blade shape of the vantage line though. And a Bos heat treat. I miss my Buck/Mayo 172, if only tip-down, I would be a whole lot richer.

Like other people have said, the Buck vantage select is the way to go. It comes in the large at 3 1/4 in and the small at 2 5/8 in. Its made in US and is extremely well made for the price. On blade hq they're going for $27. I have carried mine for about a year and love it. The steel is pretty good for the price and the quality is outstanding. Plus it has the best pocket clip I have ever used makes it a winner for me.
