Turn Your Radio On!

Charlie, looks like you have a lot on your plate between these and the TC's! I am really having an issue with the unlinked #15 TC BARLOW link sitting on there on the GEC site for awhile now. I just want a teaser! Put off buying a Viper for this one and I know it'll be worth the wait.

Waynorth, thought I would mention that I just ordered one of your barlows. Thanks for the messages folks. They helped a lot.

Congratulations, Charlie-- incredible bone!

I'm not sure I'll be able to pass up the ebony, however:

How I love seeing that shield on #15s.

:)

~ P.

Great seeing those pictures Sarah, they are shaping up to be fantastic!
Thank you for giving us a looksee!

A few more details - just got off the GEC phone! (no, I don't have a dedicated line;))
>They have Nickel Silver bolsters and Brass liners!
>They put the shield in the Ebony VERY reluctantly (and very expensively:eek:) It's too easy to sand off the letters and details in the shield. A cutler had to develop a system to make it work.
I think it's gonna be worth it though!!
>Thanks for posting the rough pictures, Sarah!!
>I think they are running a Tidioute Radio knife along with my Diamonds, but I don't know all the details.
> And finally, the finished Bone looks quite a bit different than the first pictures I posted. I thought the cuts were much finer, but when they are polished, they look like this!
Still real nice!!

Charlie , THAT looks STUNNING-absolutely just spot on - congratulations on the birth of yet another knife from a fantastic Venture into the past, and you have managed to capture the Quality and beauty of the True Traditional knife - Thank you so much for this, and to Bill at GEC for being in co-hoots with Charlie - just look at the outcome!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Charlie-- incredible bone!

That ebony is certainly impressive

Charlie, your contribution to the knife world is priceless.

Charlie, maybe it's too early to say, but have you any plans to do a Radio Jack with a clip, or will it just be the spear?

Jack

Wow!! I haven't seen this thread until just now.

These look great.

I'm a bit surprised to see the jigging once completely shaped, but I agree it still looks smashing.

Also, surprised to see the Ebony so soon, I thought the first wave was just Blood red and Chestnut jigged bones??

Great stuff Charlie, Bill & Co

That ebony is going to be amazing on that radio knife. I would love to be able to get one of those, but I can only afford one right now, so I'm holding out for the HJ.

Michael

Also a thought on the jigging (which I STILL think looks amazing) from an ignorant person...

Could the cutlers of Christmases past have produced that "narrow" jigging (like the fourth type on the Elusive Schrade thread) by cutting the bone closer to its final dimensions? That first pic from Charlie looks remarkably like some of those old knives in that thread. The "finished" handle looks much more like the more "pocket worn" examples that have been posted. Seems to my ignorant mind like a bit tighter tolerances in the rough work would result in less shaping and hence more of that "narrow" jigging at the surface.

Or should I just go back to looking at the pretty pictures while the Big Boys play? 😉

Michael

ETA: What I am calling "narrow jigging" is what Charlie calls "finer cuts" above, just in case that wasn't clear.

GEC may be taking advantage of using up their ivory stocks prior to the reported ban in June.

The Ebony Diamonds are shaping up nicely. A little insight into how hard they are to finish,
[quote Bill] Remind me never to put a printed shield in a smooth handle (again).

Especially a diamond shield!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [unquote Bill]
These are difficult to do. Bill will fulfill his contract, but may never make another one quite like this.

I took a look at a few antique Diamond-Shielded D-Es that I have, and the shields are quite small! It is because it is too easy to sand off the corners, losing the stamping, while you are finishing the nice curves of the knife.

Back when the diamond jacks were coming out I remember you saying it wouldn't be possible to put the printed diamond shield on a smooth handle. I'm really excited to see it happening here!
I emailed you Charlie but understand you're a busy man. Would you be able to put me in touch with one of the dealers you're working with on this so I'm not flooding your inbox?

Thanks,
Ben

Thanks for the update, that Ebony shield challenge sounds daunting and time consuming, but I bet they're beautiful when they're finished.

Hmmm... If you look further up this thread you might see someone with a name in GREEN. He just might be able to help you :)
