Two Becker's of every kind on Noah's Snark

Sorry to interrupt and be a bummer, but I need to ask y'all for another bit of kindness.

Please think a kind thought for our dog/my best pal Rocky, and also for Miss Angie, who loves him very much (she literally rescued him from the wild when he was small and abandoned and in pretty rough shape, and nurtured him back to many many years of happy life).

Anyway, Rocky is not feeling very well. We took him to the vet the other day, got him some meds and have an app't to get him checked up again on Monday, so there's that.

Based on the bloodwork, I suspect he is just plain getting old and I'm not real confident there's much we can do for him. :(

Good thoughts coming your way, James. Hoping it's nothing serious.

WW, you may look into Zwilling/Henckels Twin Signature collection. They are the bottom rung of knives offered by Zwilling that were still manufactured in Germany. A small set was around $100 on sale last year when I bought a set for my mother who's knives were completely useless. I was bad enough that on one visit, I dug through Dad's camping gear, stole, sharpened up and handed back her ancient set of old hickory knives before thanksgiving last year. I tried finding another set of the ESEE Becker knives like my wife and I have at home for Mom's Christmas gift, but I could only find sets that were selling for a premium. I settled on a small set of Zwilling/Henckels Twin Signature knives.
Somebody more knowledgeable may chime in and correct me since I don't use kitchen knives a whole lot, but I was pleased with the value and quality they offered. My mother was very happy to receive them for Christmas. As far as I can tell, they are holding up well to her use. The big river store, knifecenter and many places carry them if you want to dig around and take a look at them.

I was also tempted to take a gamble on a Victorinox set of kitchen knives for her. You may want to do some research on those as well.

Thanks Jerry!! Zwilling/Henckels and Victorinox will be on the short list :D

TBL, Dude, seriously. I tried telling you im not interested in exchanging them type of pics, yet you feel its necessary to BEG. I dont mean to out you publicly like this but enough is enough.

LOL just got another one too :)

Wife gave me a "chore" this morning and asked me to ask my "knife people" LOL

I need a recommendation for a set of kitchen knives under $100, has to be something normally available and easy to order online.

Suggestions?
If she just means for food prep, the Victorinox Forschner Fibrox Starter Set goes for $100 online and includes 10" Bread, 8" Chef, 6" Utility, 4" Paring.
Otherwise, there several Victorinox and JAHenckels block sets that include steak knives that'd be 'okay'.

This. The Fibrox are pretty highly rated by Cook's Illustrated. Also Look into Mercer cutlery - Henckels/Wusthof quality at about half the price. Recommended by a few culinary schools. Also Chicago Cutlery for the decent low end.

I just found out that the dirt road that goes to my favorite place on earth, a pond that I have been going to since I was young and a place Amanda and I go to a lot and want to get married at may be gated off to because douche bags think that they can do whatever they want wherever they want. There has been a lot of trash/tire dumping and recently a large stack of pallets and and oil drum were found out along this road. It looks like a group of people were planning on having a bonfire party. The town is getting sick of it (I don't blame them) and want to gate off both ends of the road to vehicles.

It really pisses me off that the actions of a few ruin it for the masses. It is a pain in the butt to get out to this pond with a capable 4x4 and now Amanda and I will have to hike in to enjoy it. One benefit is that we might be able to enjoy it douchebag fee.

Jeremy

Sorry to hear that dres. Hopefully it will solve the problem even if it makes it harder for you to get to the pond....but, mountain bikes!

We used to be able to have fires on the beach here...you'd go to the firehouse in Rye, give them your license and tell them what beach you were going to be at. People started having fires without permits and caused a hassle for the FD - and the town's solution was to say "no more fire permits for non-residents!".......HUH?!?!? Apparently they wouldn't be able to track down us pesky out-of-towners (I live in the next town north) with a copy of our driver's license connected to the beach we were having the fire at. Stupid db's lighting fires without permits, and even stoopider town council. Sucks, because I would get a couple dozen permits a year.

Compared the new swamp rat MMD against the Parangatang. Both slicing free standing cardboard and power chopping on a 2x8. The parangatang slices better which i expected, but it also bites deeper  But the MMD is much much more comfortable in use, even though its HEAVIER.

Unfortunately with the parangatang when power chopping there is not a single way i can hold the handle and it be comfortable... In fact power chopping with it HURTS my hand.

Ill be sending the Rat to get reprofiled as i love the handle and blade design. And i love how the P'tang performs so ill be looking into modding the handle.

i has steak

So, I may or may not have had an EPIC mail call today!
S.O.E. flashlight case, and Key silencer. Bark River UltraLite Bushcrafter (with Desert Ironwood Burl and red liners and 2 sheaths), and not 1, but 2 Hex-Hawks!

Hey, WW. Nice Piatt scales for that Swamp Warden.

Thanks man! They make it feel like a different knife. I had a set in the past. This is actually the 3rd Warden i have gotten. 3rd or 4th rodent solution too. I use to own a few of all the smaller ones, and at one point had 4 RMDs... but things came up and i sold them all off... Sometimes i go to google image and type in worldwood knives, or worldwood knife display or variations of this and its like going back in time LOL.

Now im trying to get all my favorites back. And more than generously my buddy Magoo in Australia hooked me up with the Warden, scales, sheath, scrapyard coin, and Mr T. as a birthday gift!

Because....
