Thank you, everyone. We appreciate your kind thoughts a lot. Rocky has another vet appointment this afternoon, with a doc that Angie knows/trusts better than the other one we saw.

I just found out that the dirt road that goes to my favorite place on earth, a pond that I have been going to since I was young and a place Amanda and I go to a lot and want to get married at may be gated off to because douche bags think that they can do whatever they want wherever they want. There has been a lot of trash/tire dumping and recently a large stack of pallets and and oil drum were found out along this road. It looks like a group of people were planning on having a bonfire party. The town is getting sick of it (I don't blame them) and want to gate off both ends of the road to vehicles.

It really pisses me off that the actions of a few ruin it for the masses. It is a pain in the butt to get out to this pond with a capable 4x4 and now Amanda and I will have to hike in to enjoy it. One benefit is that we might be able to enjoy it douchebag fee.

That sucks, but as you say it may be a blessing in disguise.

I get pretty ticked off when I see litter and trash and stuff in natural places, too. C'mon people, it's just not that hard to carry out your potato chip bags and beer cans. Piles of tires and stuff is just a whole other level of stupid. :grumpy:

I agree, strongly. And hate dealing with the stupidity here. Its the city, people have to live here. The same people living here are the ones ruining it and then complaining.

Hell i dont even through cigarette butts on the ground. Not when in the woods or in the city. I'll field strip them and pocket the butts. then throw em in the trash or fire.

There is a lady 4 houses down or so that lets her dog come out and piss and shit all on her porch. She will sit there and watch the dog then go right inside and leave it there. She is not very old or handicapped, there is a park a couple blocks down the road PLUS she has the same back yard like i have. Its small but at least its not on your front porch. I have no idea how people are just OK with stuff like that.

Seen a guy just this morning when i was taking the kids to school, now here is a grown man walking 2 kids to school and he throws his hunny bun wrapper on the ground and then instructed his kids to do the same. I made a point to tell my kids i better not EVER see them throwing trash on the ground like that.

Just ignorant.

Sorry to hear about the pup James. That's always tough.
dres: That's one of my pet peeves. Pick up your s$!t people!!!!
WW: $100 for a set isn't going to get you much. I like the old Food Network knives. At some point they switched manufacturers and the quality went to shart. Boker saga knives are what I use the most now. Even more than my Global knives. Maybe try and find a set of the ESEE/ Becker knives? Weren't those going for around a $100?

Chances are I would have done the "you dropped this back there" trick.

Henckels 4-star 7" santoku is about the best value in a kitchen knife I've come across. That and a paring knife is all you need.

I need a recommendation for a set of kitchen knives under $100, has to be something normally available and easy to order online.
If she just means for food prep, the Victorinox Forschner Fibrox Starter Set goes for $100 online and includes 10" Bread, 8" Chef, 6" Utility, 4" Paring.

Otherwise, there several Victorinox and JAHenckels block sets that include steak knives that'd be 'okay'.

My dad really likes Henckels. Wife likes Shun. It's really one of those everyone is going to be different things.

JT, Sorry to hear about Rocky, hope everything works out.

WW, you should try getting in to Agents of Shield again. I've been waiting for season two to come out on Netflix for a long time. The last several episodes were excellent.

Same here bro. Again, it's just not that hard! When we go for walks we bring a small plastic bag from the grocery store, and rarely do we fail to fill it up with other people's trash.

Every park or state forest or whatever I've ever been to at least has a dumpster or trash can at the beginning/end of trails and such. Someone in another thread recently posted a pic he took on along a trail, where someone had let their dog take a dump (perfectly natural), scooped it up with a plastic bag provided at the head of the trail (OK, cool, good job)... and then left the bag of poop lying there

My other "fave" is when you come up to a store or restaurant, and the ground all around the door is littered with butts... right next to the ashcan they provided. WTF?!?

$100 for kitchen knives? The first thing that springs to my mind is Old Hickory. I don't know if they make a proper chef's knife pattern, and the edge retention isn't very good, but they're super easy to sharpen and they take a really nice crisp edge.

Depends what you mean by a set, too. Angie and I rarely use anything but a chef's knife and a paring knife, sometimes a slicer/boning knife. 90% of those 20-piece sets are junk you don't really need anyway.

I think we paid $30 or $35 shipped for our Victorinox 8" chef's knife. It's comfy, ground well (meaning thin) and it works just fine. It just doesn't hold an edge very well (or t least, compared to what I'm used to) Based on it, for the money I would have no trouble trying their other designs.

On the other hand, you could just save up a bit more and get your wife a kickass handmade chef's knife that will handle pretty much anything you throw at it and hold an edge so long it's almost boring... in fact, I just happen to know a guy who will be posting some for sale very soon... :D

This week for sure. They just need final sharpening, pics and a write-up. Every time I promise "pics later today", something comes up, it gets put off and I look stupid :o

*lol*
I resemble that remark.

A good kitchen knife is worth dollars. Spend the same on a factory kitchen knife as you would on a Becker of the same size and you'll be fine - and happy with the result.

snip...

Can I get a spot in line now? Or would that be cheating?

Yesterday and today have been pretty awesome days.

1. I found my Revison Hellfly's! and its even better now that I can use them without contacts!
2. We went to the park and played all day. I took this photo a year ago when I defaced government property

When we went this year, because it was Cedar the wood had greyed over. I decided to freshen it up. :D yeah, I'm a rebel like that!

23 1 and 1/4 inch thick pork chops :D

Now I'm sitting here in shorts... with it being 73F outside!

Time to go to the inlaw's for dinner, maybe have some rum in the hammock.

We have always gotten them cheap wood blocks from walfart or similar. So 100 would get a little better quality than that i guess.. But i will look into some of these options for sure.

James, i know first hand how awesome your kitchen knives are brother!! One day ill need to surprise her with one :D

Great mail call. I pity the fool :D
