Dern the bad luck.... I'll be in Nashville Monday and Tuesday. It appears that Yazoo's taproom is closed during the beginning of the week.

JT, I showed my wife those kitchen knives...

She says "WOW, those looks great, is that set around $100?"

:D I laughed out loud... Hysterically.... Couldnt even answer.. Then she says... "Well why in the hell are you showing them to me if your just gunna laugh at me" ....I laughed some more....

I laughed a lot yesterday. Face still hurts from it all :)

Cool vid WW, and thanks everyone. Got one more knife to etch and a few more pics to take, then I'll put a new sale up in the exchange. Also there will be a new, regularly-updated sticky thread in my subforum for one-offs, oddities and anything that doesn't sell the first time around. Whatever I have available will be coming to the Gathering with me... including of course the M2's.

JT. Those kitchen cutters look fantastic!

Don't start makin' 'em... they're addictive. :D

Hmmm... I could sell you a kit. One bar of steel and one sheet of G10 comes to about $100. I'll even throw in the corby bolts for free. Some assembly required. :D

Can you throw some of your skills in with this deal? If so im on it :D

I got around 7 feet of steel just sitting here.... but it came from Aldo with horrible geometry :p I figured you just had to buy the steel and magically it became a sharp knife :D

Magic costs extra.

There's always a catch LOL

The steel i got sitting here is 1/8" 52100..... even if i had ALL of the skills in the world.... Thats still too thin for the knives id wanna make.

I got it for practicing. Then i find out its easier to practice on thicker stock. Quick to ruin a thin knife... A little more room for error on thicker stuff. Had better luck with a piece of 3/16" i played with.

Hell I cant even imagine working on that super thin kitchen knife stock!!! Id ruin 12 blades in 5 minutes HAHA!!!

Ah don't worry James. As of right now I don't even have time to make kitchen knives. I made my wife a couple of kitchen knives about two months back out of 440C. It was really just a opportunity for me to experiment with the 440C heat treat process, plus get some cudo points from the wifey, lol. Shes been wanting some new knives in the kitchen for a while. They turned out pretty well, it was the first time I ever tried the plate quenching in heat treat. They seem to cut well, I keep one outside with the grill and she has used the other one almost every day inside.

Never fear, someone will get one of those jewels from James, and get all butthurt that it won't baton through a 12" log of hickory or live oak. Even if they use a sledge hammer. Then James will get the email: mr terrio, this fine kitchen knife is too thin and sharp to baton with, why would you make it like that?

I can see it now...
I'd have to start drinking.

It's good to be busy  I have one custom order on the books to finish up, then I'm done with that for a while. It feels great.

I just start drinking every Thursday night, whether I get messages like that or not. That way I'm always prepared. :p

Honestly I haven't had any issues with that so far (knock on wood)... usually when people pay that kind of money for a kitchen knife they don't try to cut lumber with it.

The funny thing is, you really can chop through a 2x4 with a good chef's knife if you know what you're doing... the problem comes when people just start flailing around, make poor/off-angle strikes and chip the blade. Same reason I don't warranty against batonning... there's just too many ways to do it wrong. :/ My motto is, "I test 'em so you don't have to."

That is good to hear Noswad. I hope your pooch is back to normal soon.

Jeremy

Good looking dog! Hope the old guy is feeling better!

Excellent!

Great news Noswad, glad to hear it!

Hope everyone's furry friends feel better soon.

This is late, but thanks everyone. He's back to normal. No more human food for him, though.

Yeah, I've been known to tell people I don't cover stupid. Battoning a chefs knife through wood is covered under that.

Chopping... Oh yes, I'm sure of that. Hell, the machetes we use at work are quite thin. That's the best kind for sustained work chopping trees, brush, briar, limbs, etc. And, you are correct, even with a machete, hit wrong, you can chip the blade, bend it, or both. I was referring to the baton crowd. Some do it intelligently, others... Not so much. I don't beat on my knives like that. But that's just me.

Agreed. The site is fine until i log in, then I lose all my borders and all replies are met with a leave page message box, then I get an error saying the message is too short.

I was able to figure out that I can post a reply that is "normal" length if I hit the reply with quote button.
