I just registered for bladeforums (long time lurker) to post this. Count me in for a bush waki (tyrant version). Is there going to be a preorder link on your site? (I’ve just ordered a Fell Beast as well). I’m excited to see more of your work.

I’m sure you have it covered, but it in case I can help in any way, I’m a mechanical engineer with access to pretty expensive software. 3D modeling/cad is trivial, including calculating center of mass. I can also set up ansys simulations if there are any scenarios you’d be interested in seeing.

I will totally take you up on this! I will have a pre-order on the website as well.

I did not word that very well! Edited the post for clarity. For the handle, I'm planning on using this pattern of carbon fiber called Space Coral by Fat Carbon.

I'd like to also include a second "user" handle made from TeroTuf, but my machinist is wary of being able to get the fit right with how soft and flexible Terotuf is. If I'm able to make the Terotuf work, I could do a cheaper version with just a TeroTuf handle alone. If I can source it, I could also probably do a cheaper version with G10 or similar material that has high dimensional stability.

The Carbon fiber, by itself, will be around $300 of the price. I could cut that amount off the price by using Terotuf, micarta, or G10 instead and bring it down to $1,900.

Target weight 34-38 ounces. I'm keeping it as light and fast as possible. The carbon fiber weighs quite a bit, there will be about 4 ounces of difference between carbon fiber and terotuf.

You could possibly bed the tang in the terotuff. Might alleviate the stability some.

Alright yall,

We are making some serious progress here. These swords are super complex to model and M MechE has been putting in some serious hours to help bring the 3D models for these blades to life.

Here is the latest draft of the Tyrant Katana. We are going to change the look of and surface texture of some of the handle components, but we are closing in a completed model.

This is close to 40in overall. I don't think there will be anything on the market like this blade. M MechE also came up with a pretty slick idea for the handle assembly thats even stronger and looks incredible. We will be holding the front of the scales to the tang with a steel collar with hidden pins. This is an elegant and traditional looking solution and also is extremely strong and eliminates the need for any holes in the front portion of the tang.

The Wakizashi is being worked on as well and I'm meeting with the machine shop on Monday to discuss production details. These will be ready for pre-order soon.

Z zaedion He'll still figure out a way to do a two-handed grip anyway

This is interesting

Would like more info like center of percussion etc

Your latest rendering looks eerily like a K20

Interested in what your difference in tsuba and pommel will provide to balance and effectiveness

We are running center of percussion and balance point data as we move through iterations. Granted, it will be slightly different in real life because we can't exactly model the weight of the terotuf. I will post the best data we have once the pommel and surface texture of the scales are finalized. We are also going to produce the pommel after all the blades are made, so we can play with the weight and extend it if needed to create the right balance. The Katana is all about speed. The Waki will have more chopping power.

I haven't gotten a chance to handle a K20 yet, but just based on specs, the Tyrant will be a much different blade. Should clock in at almost a foot longer than the K20.

Very cool!

I'll say the K20 is not a chopper ..... the moment you get a chance to handle one is beautiful and you understand it's purpose

The handle design without the screws in the front looks very clean. Do you think the hidden pins will slip out of the scales with some movement, such as vibrations and bending?

I think it looks much better as well, not to mention much, much stronger.

This handle will be bomb proof. The steel collar actually wraps around the scales just like the pommel and then then hidden pins will be holding the scales to the collar. We may not even need the pins if we can make the collar press fit, but we are going to have them as backup.

I'm interested in both, I fall in the less interested in the carbon fiber department. Big fan of terotuff though, and wood. Ive wanted a legit full functioning katan forever. Missed the swordbuyers guide 9240 ones unfortunately

Also trying to get my hands on one of those fell beast machetes

I believe there are still a couple Fell Beasts left of the Huntsman website.

I'm in for a Katana, preferably with dark red G10 or Micarta handle and black or gold hardware (if possible of course). A blade this elegant needs a nicer handle than simply functional but pedestrian Terotuff.

This is a Magnum Opus, after all! 😃

BTW, Love my Fell Beast! It rides in my car with a Silky Katana Boy and smaller Felco saw. Gotta love country life with fallen trees across the road after a storm.

I still have a tiny handful of Fell Beasts left if you'd like one!

I'm planning on Terotuf for the base for a few reasons, mainly its incredible light weight, durability, and ability to absorb shock.

We will run quite a few different materials for some premium options, but they will all change the weight and balance of the sword slightly. Terotuff will likely be the best for overall performance.

I'm personally pretty interested in using some Thunderstorm Kevlar or snakeskin gold inlayed carbon fiber with all brass fittings....

These are the colors that speak to me when I think about Japanese culture, especially the sword on the right. Cinnabar is the actual color I'd most like to see, especially if it has gold lightning through it, kintsugi style.

I'm picturing vermillion red scales with gold veins and titanium nitrided gold tsuba (guard), kashira (pommel) and fasteners. Perhaps a black hi (fuller) in a satin finished blade (wishful thinking). The saya would be black with gold veins and a matching vermillion kojiri (end cap).

Bill (Dynamax) could fashion a special black leather belt loop with tooled dragon's head that would be kept in place by the kurikata (knob) on the saya, ambi of course 'cause I'm a lefty but leaving it to my righty son who trained in kenjutsu and kendo.

Was that too much information??? I'm
obsessing now and a bit of drool is escaping my mouth as I fantasize.
