Ugliest knife?

Ok, I'll admit some Emersons are plug ugly, as I said, further up the page, but the Commander?? I think that this is one of the best looking folders of all time. Such sensuous curves!!

I definately agree..."definately. definately yeah"

Keith M. has me in complete agreement with him. Virtually ANYTHING from "Frost Cutlery" is so ugly it's mama won't even claim it.

I also think a lot of Spyderco's stuff is on the ugly side but gimme a Spydie any day of the week to work with and I'm a very happy camper. They are first rate tools IMO. Just kinda ugly.

Sebenza. Just like the Benchmade Pinnacle, they are simply grey turds in appearance. But, they are also cool tools. I got lucky and got a Pinnacle that works perfectly and it is my "go-to" when I want a hevy duty Frame-Lock for the right front pocket.

Striders. In appearance: :barf:'nuff said.

And I gotta admit that I think EVERY bloody thing in the Becker line is as ugly as Roseanne Barr in a bikini.

The funny thing is most knives(with the exception of Frost Cultery) that are ugly in looks are really great at their intended uses.

These are ugly to you?

Blechhh! Ugly as sin! ;)

No, c'mon you know we're talking about the plain Sebenzas with the matte grey ti-alloy handles.

Actually, that Sebenza design doesn't do anything for me either...too much mystical/magical stuff going for it...;)

now go compare that with the Micarta Calypso Jr from spyderco.

Wide blade(lots of belly), flat grind, smooth lines open and closed(it flows)... 8A isn't the best for edge retension, but it takes one fucking fine edge... scary has nothing on it...

vs

thin blade, hollow grind, bg-42 steel is nice but overpriced(just use basic vg-10, it does the job), nowhere to choke up on the blade(no choil)... and the small sebenzas are too short in my hand. not to mention leftie-enemies...

and at $500+ up here, I'd rather buy more spydies...

Shhh. I'm just trying to cheer him up and make him feel better. Don't tell him! ;)

Oh yeah, another thread led me to remember another ugly knife BUT I know I'm going to have tomatoes thrown at me for this one because it has a big following:

The MAD MAXX.

Sorry. To each their own, but I find this knife to look so gaudy. I like my folders to look like folders. The Mad Maxx looks like some space cadet stilleto from Klingon. Hey, just my opinion. It just looks like it's trying too hard to look dangerous.

One favour please: take the tomatoes out of the cans first before you hurl them at me. Thanks.

I completely agree. After seeing so many rave reviews of the knife, I've tried very hard to convince myself that it looks alright. But it's just not happening. I think it's ugly as sin, especially the coffin-shaped handle. Yuck.

I'd rather buy (gasp) a Spyderco, even though I think they're pretty ugly mofos too, all of them except the SS hawkbill bladed ones.

1) Anything by MOD.( I wannabe a *hard* boy, mummy!)
2) Any balisong. Why?

I'll expand on "Why?":

a) They're a solution looking for a problem.
b) Anyone got a knife? Yes, here. Watch this cool flip.....Aaaaaahhh!!! Anyone have an Elastoplast and a SAK?

3) Extrema Ratio knives. Why?
4) Spyderco Jot Singh Khalsa. Sanctuary! Sanctuary!
5) Most Busses. ("They're so *kewl*! If I could ever afford to take it out of the safe I could cut anything with it!)

I wouldn't say balisongs are ugly but I agree with you that they're impractical in many ways and fall short to the advantages of modern day tactical folders. I gather that's what you mean when you say "They're a solution looking for a problem."

They're unique looking knives though; very flash and certainly mesmerizing to watch a FMA master flipping them around. They have a cool factor.

I think those Mike Franklin HAWG folders have to be some of the ugliest looking folders around. :barf:

*holds up tower shield* Bowies and Stag (mind you the persian style and Randle #14(or is it #1?) bowies arn't too bad)

Maybe it's me...But Striders and Busse are not ugly...Maybe it's my backround...but they are great looking...

Spydies are pretty ugly
Gil Hibben's are ugly
Sebenza's are not ugly...their plain...
Extrema Ratio are ugly

I think the king of ugly has to be Frost

Quiet Storm,
I don't know...I think that all of the knives on your list look pretty good! As for myself, I really despise the looks of the Schrade Avatar (3/4 barfs) and the Beast (4/4 barfs). As far as the Spyderco Starmate, I think that it looks great. One of my fave designs!

Of course beauty´s in the eye of the beholder, Jazzman. I don´t know the Schrade´s you mentioned, but I think I gotta check those out.

maximus otter,
yup those Extrema Ratio tantos look a bit too spacey for me. Not sure if the designs of these knives serve a practical purpose.

Of the knives mentioned in this thread, I like the looks of almost the entire Busse line of products. They look like the tough tools they are. And for the same reason I don´t think Striders are ugly.

'Course beauty is in the eye of th ebeholder...I actually like some of the nominees (e.g. MOD, Busse, Balisongs, Hawg, Strider, etc.)

Hey fishbulb, I think that Spyderco collaboration with the diamond shaped hole was with Timberline, not Outdoor Edge.
