Ugly Knife Pics

Check out the latest and the greatest.

Skip to 1:40 to watch it open. I am not sure if this is ugly or awesome.

I honestly don't know what to make of it either. I can appreciate the workmanship and mechanical intricacies it has, it's too impractical to be considered practical art and too impractical to be taken serious. A nice prop for a Steampunk Cosplayer with too much money.

Yeah, with all that mechanical malarkey going on I was expecting a slow-opening automatic, so you could see all the moving parts doing their thing. That would have been awesome. As it is, it's just complexity for complexity's sake (ok, that describes probably the majority of steampunk designs, but still).

And what the hell does that lever on the spine do? If it was long enough to catch the "rib" on the back half of the handle it could serve as a lock, but as it is it appears to do nothing... Fidget lever?

Have we already done the tactical trowel?

I bet it's perfect for those black ops renovation missions where you don't know if you need to spackle or shank a fool with your mad ninja skills.

Oh crap! It’s a trowel? I had been using it to serve pie!

Check out maker BladeTricks for some truly hideous knives. (I’m embarassed to admit I wouldn’t mind trying out some of the pikal knives)

The proof that a design is truly cutting edge is when someone glances at it quickly and can't tell which part is the blade without looking more closely.

The Eschaton blade combines almost every past blade feature into one. Holes in the blade? How about two. Swedges? Sure. How about a fuller? You got it. How about an idiotic compound grind? No problem. What about the cutting edge, can we just make it a random assortment of lines? Here you go.

It's a strange combination of "so novel I sort of want it" and "that's the stupidest thing I've ever seen".

There was a fun discussion about that Bladetricks XikXak karambit in an FB group and the concensus was that it is very, very poorly designed and likely injurious to the user if ever used defensively. You have a fun karambit story, don't you?

Remember how much it hurts when you sit wrong or trip and fall on your keys while they're in your pocket? Just imagine that scenario w/ this thing.
