Ugly Knives

This thread is super annoying.

Has there been a decline in the knife community, or do I just keep dropping into the wrong threads?

Why the pencil sharpener on the SOG? Are they implying that we aren't capable of sharpening a pencil with a knife??

No, no decline IMHO just a bit of repetition. Click on your "thread tools" and unsubscribe Joe or you're going to keep getting annoyed. The kids won't stop playing so why not let them or play along?

Surely you have an ugly knife to share with us? I don't, but I like seeing some of what they come up with. :D

Really? Worthless? If it wasn't there how would you open the knife without wrist flicking it every time? Even though it's just your opinion, I'm curious as to how the Spyderhole worthless?

I've never bought a spyderco, and really don't plan to, just because of the spydie hole. I prefer a thumbstud for opening...(if I can't get a wave style opener)

a couple things i've noticed...

i see nothing wrong with a new user that posts frequently, yet it seems several of you do. that kind of thinking leads to forums dying... no need to yell at him for posting threads, just gently guide him in the right direction

It wasn't the fact that a new user posted that bothered me here. It was the attitude of the post.

Somebody that has only been a member for a VERY short time comes and makes a post like "hey everybody, check out these crap knives". Not only was the post very misinformed, but just the notion that a total newbie thinks he has something to teach a bunch of people that have been into knives for years.

The forum is VERY good at welcoming new users that have a better demeanor. Posts like "hey is X knife any good?" or "what can you guys tell me about x" or the classic "what knife should I buy?" will get a much more positive response.

Being new to a Knife forum does not make you a knife newbie. It just makes you new to a knife forum.

Certainly not, but this kid definitely is.

He called a sculpture of a squid a "Mall Ninja", for god's sake.

The type of newbie that pisses me off is the type that reads two threads (most likely about mall ninjas), considers himself to be an expert, and decides to educate everyone else.

Hence the term post less, read more.

Sorry guys you've got me curious. This thread was edited by the OP and I'm interested to know if anyone knows what the titles were & what he posted that was dumb or troll - like? :)

The OP was titled "Look at these Mall Ninjas!!!!!!"

He went on to post the pictures in the first 3 posts.

However, thanks to his excellent research skills, he thought "Mall ninja" meant "stupid-looking knife"

I pointed it out, and rather then commenting, he quietly edited and hoped no one would notice.

Thanks MoreToasties. He's a newb, probably young and may have rode the small bus to school last year..........just kidding :D

This is ultimate mall ninja.

http://www.razordagger.com/

It is all of the following and much more:

A Magic Act: because your friends will not believe there own eyes. How can a massive sword be totally hidden and released from its containment system in less than a "blink of an eye".
A Novelty: Fun to use and amaze your friends. The RazorSword is massive!
A Survival Tool: The BeltSword System may be used as a "machete-like" tool that has many functions for camping, hiking, or survival. You may wrap matches in the handle and the handle is 15-20 feet of nylon cord which may be used for emergency purposes.
Physical Fitness Training: Take some lessons in "stick fighting" (know in the world of Martial Arts as) Eskrima which is actually very similar to the tactics used in sword combat. You may conduct a "relaxed work-out" to very "extreme physical work-out" with the RazorSwords. (Use only dull blades with a well trained expert as part of your physical training-begin with stick fighting)
Self-Defense: In states that allow concealed carry and if you have a concealed carry permit; you may use the BeltSword System as a self-defense tool. Deployment is faster than a handgun and you will never need to worry about shooting an innocent person blocks away.
Cutting Power: Even the dull blade of the RazorSword cuts as well or nearly as well as a machete. You may sharpen the RazorSword and it will cut better than a Samurai Sword or a machete.
Greatest Weapon: What is the greatest weapon? The "Element of Surprise"! No other massive sword has "this" at a mere "touch" the RazorSword is released into strike mode. Search me.you can't find it!
Military: There are military applications. Unable to comment.
Police: There are law enforcement applications.
Martial Arts: There is a real spiritual aspect to the martial arts and also to the RazorSword. The Soul of the Sword is only as honorable as its guardian.
Future: We are conducting experiment with various BeltSword Systems as a complete weapon platform. It will be capable of holding multiple weapons with simultaneous deployment. It will be better that a science fiction movie!

It will be better that a science fiction movie! It'll definitely be that. :D

Yeah they're ugly and mall ninja eqpmt. A double play.

As in any forum, people agree and disagree over details. I have been a member in car, motorcycle and knife forums and it's the same all over, as it has been said here already, extreme enthusiasts, newbs, strong brand loyalties etc etc etc that degenerates into name-calling and general bad relations. I don't like spydies but I know they are pretty good; I get chinese (oh noooo!!!) cheap knives, some because I like their designs, others to practice my customizing skills, but as time has passed and this steel fascination continues, I am better informed as to what is quality or useful. To me, a knife is a tool first, and a last ditch effort for personal defense. To each their own.

Keep posting those ugly knives!!!

Here come the ugly! *Disclaimer* Yes I know it's also a cap-lifter, yes, I'm sure it's a really great knife, sorry if your wife bought you this and it's really special to you...etc.

Okay, I can't hate too much on the first Cold Steel knife pictured. The blade shape is that of a kris which has been around for a rather long time. I definitely agree on the CRKT knives though. Those things look pretty silly.

The M-Tech knives, to me, aren't even worth discussing so far as design and typically expected quality. The ones below that seem to be something that are clearly meant to be put on display and never actually used though. :/
