Uncommon Handle Material - Pics

I'm cheating because I don't own one of these but I like the Pine Cone handles. If these were used on pocket knives I would have to have one.

That sure does look sweet. My take away is just about anything can be used for a knife handle. =)

Yes, it might behave like old Cell and start outgassing!:barf::D:D

There have ben some bizarre and interesting materials on show in this thread. Are there( TRADITIONAL) knives with stone handles at all?

Check out santa fe stoneworks, they put out a variety of stone handled lockbacks.

Some outsatnding knives! This one is beautiful. The shield is A+!!!

I might have to look into getting one of his knives with a fish shield for my son for a special occasion. Maybe starting highschool or for his 16th birthday....depending on how much I'd have to save up for one of those Lloyd beauties.

These are great! I would also be interested in instructional "how to" type stuff as well. I have some ideas. Are they very involved to make some of these epoxy composites? I have seen some home made micartas that were interesting but its more the setting in clear material that Im looking for. The pine cone and the corn cob like bark river do or like the tuna valley clock pieces. the "stabilization", the compression (how much and with what?). How the layouts are set and determined for viewing etc.

I got to handle one of these in a local brick and mortar. Very peculiar, nice looking but seems like it would be slick when wet. The salesman said it gets quite a few comments and compliments.

From the looks of it, it was just a thin layer of skin over a matte grey epoxy or base that was about 1/4" thick per side.

A quick heads up when working with this stuff.

The dust is Very bad for machines and will easily gum up a motor rendering it near useless if you don't have adequate ventilation and dust protection.

On top of that, it is likely to be one of the more harmful materials to inhale/ingest (as if there was a "safe" contaminant? ). Wear your PPE.

Anyone happen to know if CSC made any folders with this Cornhusker Resin? It's stunning, but I've no real use for this fixed hunter.
