Underrated Bucks

I'm still using my 732 way more than many other Bucks I have..I just love the scissors for opening the little alcohol prep pads and the lens wipes I use every day..and the little packs of ketchup. Craig I remember many years ago seeing the Smidgen you added the Stag to..Then as now a fantastically useful little Buck!

I view the pre-Tops Nighthawk series and the Buck-Striders as underrated and under appreciated. The Nighthawks offered a variety of blade sizes, profiles and finishes, comfortable handles and the 650 Pigstickers were da bomb!

The Buck Strider models offered some kinda uncomfortable models being rather too square but built like a tank and the blade steels, in several different profiles were superb, especially the ATS-34 which I’m a huge fan of.

The now discontinued 877?
I forget the name they gave it.
Also the 460 Meritor and its smaller brother?
The 103 Skinner?

Are there any models you feel don't make as much of an appearance here, or any you seem to appreciate on a different level than most here ?

The first for me would have to be the 305 lancer.

I suppose it certainly has it's fair share of fans, but carrying it with confidence as a sole pocket knife like I often do doesn't seem that common of a practice.

Next is the 160 Smidgen.

When I was looking to acquire one many had me second guessing my decision and honestly I can't recall ever seeing anyone else post a carry picture of the 160, but I got the knife and absolutely love it.
Like my beloved 305 theres little I've needed a knife for that it couldn't handle, again like the 305 you're not gonna white knuckle it and cut through tough materials but the blade is nice and thin and cuts extremely well.

Theres also the 524 alumni.

They're nice looking and very thin too, I'd expect to see them more but I get the feeling most people probably buy them as a gift for their wife or something.
I'm probably way off base on that assumption though.
That 106 smidgen is awesome! I’d love to have one but they’re discontinued.

Last year I expressed interest in the smidgen and a member PM'd me about a NOS spare they were willing to part with, and I didn't hesitate, I had been looking for a while and there were none on EBAY at the time.

Just do a save search for the 160 smidgen on ebay and you may get lucky.

The 450 is a favorite user of mine. It's blade swaps to the 112 and way back when drop point 112's were rare many gave up their blade. But the best part was how 'grippy' it felt especially when wet. I've always felt it would make a great handle material for 110/112 folders and probably a lot of fixed blade Bucks..

They had some of the 100 series in a rubber kraton handle, I think it was the 600 series.

The 112LT. So unappreciated, Buck discontinued them. Hand filling, lightweight, great blade, cheap, well made. I love these things.

I'm so glad I got one when they first came out! Also, it seems the 501 / 503 / 505 don't appear here very often.

Got a picture?
The Only thing I'm turning up on Ebay is the 560 Gamut which is a folder.

I don't, but there are a few threads about rehandeling them with before and after pictures.
Whatever rubber Buck used deteriorates, even if left in a drawer. (at least mine did)

Mine is roughly 50 miles away, and because of the continuing Assisted Living Covid lockdown, (and no vehicle) I can't go get it.

460 or 406 ?
Theres the 406 kalinga, but I can't find a 460 fixed blade.

there is also the 619 which is a rubber handled 119 or the 639 which is the sawback in rubber handle? i saw some mention of same as 119 in rubber handle...so guessing here on what I'm reading.
